S. Christa McAuliffe Elementary School, built in 1988, was named after S. Christa McAuliffe, who was the first teacher to go into space on the Challenger space shuttle. It maintains a student council, parent-teacher organization, choir, and art, chess and computer clubs. S. Christa McAuliffe Elementary School conducts special classes in art, music, media, and health and physical education. The school supports several before- and after-school day care programs. It provides academic services to students in prekindergarten through fifth grade. S. Christa McAuliffe Elementary School is a part of Weld County School District 6 and is located in Greeley, Colo.
