Save yourself money (not to mention your engine) and do not, under any circumstances, trust your vehicle to Muffler Man. They did $600 worth of work on my truck while ignoring an oil leak that blew my engine. Thanks very much for making sure a single mom of three was stranded on her way home from work.

Very disappointed in them.took my 2008 caravan in for front brakes. Was told I needed $650/worth of repairs. Finally talks them down to $530. I was told I was getting priemium parts . Boy were they wrong.. Rotors warped instantly, brake pad create so much dust, my wheels were always black from dust .went make to complain was tersely told I got what I got deal with it. Poor customer service cheap parts and inferior workmanship =a bad place I recommend not going there for repair work.

That place should be shut down. Never had such a worse expirence. The owner was a total stick in the mud. She was super unintelligible in what she was arguing about. She had cursed me out while I was getting a quote for a tranny fluid change. Proceed to curse and yell when I said the prices were high and that I will not be coming to receive the change. Place should be shut down. I strongly advise you spend your money some where else. My buddy us a fuel pump done and stuff was stolen from his vehicle and stuff that was never wrong was all of a sudden broke. He is currently finding out the steps to shut them down and press charges.

What the owners of the Muffler Man in Grand Rapids did for my family was unbelievable. January 3, my 86-year-old mother left the house at about 9:30 to go to a hair appointment. She never made it there. Instead, she somehow ended up getting on 96 by the South Penn Meijer store. Around 4:00, a message was left on my answering machine, letting me know that my mom was in Grand Rapids, and please call my mom on moms cell phone. I was unable to reach my mom on her cell, but Holly, the person who made the original call, called back to let me know that her brother and his girl friend were bringing my mom home. The girl friend drove my moms car, with mom, and Hollys brother drove his car. They made a 160-mile-round-trip, to make sure my mom was safely returned to Lansing. When we met them at my moms house, they refused to take any money for gas or their time. These people are true heroes in my book. Holly and her brother own/work at the Muffler Man in Grand Rapids.

Been going to Muffler Man on L...

Been going to Muffler Man on Lake Michigan for 7 years. They have the best price on oil changes and fair prices on repairs. They've done brakes & bearing w/o any issue. I have found the staff friendly and always received good suggestions.

My car broke down a half mile away from their shop. I got it there and they told me they could get it right in for me. Well they did and they fixed it. They also charged me $70 for an $18 part and $45 for a $25 part. It's ridiculous. I feel like they take advantage of people when they know they're in a bind. On the flip side though, they welded a small piece of pipe onto my exhaust for free because exhaust was getting into my trunk

Long comment, but worth your time & MONEY!

We've used this location for service for the past few years. Recently we had some problems with our car's suspension and took it in for an estimate. They wanted $1200 for struts etc. Took it to another location (dealership) and they charged us $330 for basically the same work (although they noted that some of the things on Muffler Man's estimate didn't need to be fixed).

A bit later the brakes went out on the same vehicle, completely unrelated to the other work. Hoping it was an easy fix (break line, etc..) and Muffler Man is right down the road we returned for an estimate. They told us that BOTH rear cylinders had blown and we would also need shoes, drums and hardware kits. Yes, kits. Cost $375. I asked for an itemized estimate and wasn't given one (by the owner). I asked why it was so expensive. Its pretty easy to call around for prices on parts and their parts were almost 3 times that of parts stores. She said "If you want to go somewhere cheap like AutoZone I'm sure you can get cheaper parts". Where does she go for parts? Germany?

I took the car back home and took it apart with my father-in-law (mechanic). One side was completely fine-- the brakes had been redone within the last year and a half. Shoes were almost as full as the new ones. Drum, fine. Cylinder-- you guessed it-- fine. The cylinder on the other side had blown and needed to be replaced. We cleaned up the drum and it's in fine condition. We needed shoes and a cylinder. Cost - $47 (+ 2 hours of labor).

So if you want honesty, I recommend you take your vehicle elsewhere.

We went in to speak with the owner about being lied to - thinking she would at least care that her mechanic had lied about the extent of the work that needed to be done. She blew up and got mad that we didn't have the work done with them, saying that she had to guarantee the work and the parts, that everything she had quoted needed to be done.

When we confronted her about lying about the cylinder (the one that didn't blow) she told us she looks over everything herself. I guess I (not a trained mechanic) know what a blown cylinder looks like better than the mechanics there. Also, the parts that I picked up have a warranty so I'm still not sure why the parts they use cost three times more.

Thinking she would like to hear a customer's complaint to better her business, I am very disappointed in her customer service. She was very rude and defensive and didn't seem to care that she lost a longtime customer. I was lucky enough that my father-in-law had the time to look at it with me, but I feel bad for the others out there who are taken advantage of and lied to by Muffler Man -- SHOP AROUND!!!
