Pam Jackson was my Mortgage Consultant and helped me find my dream home. šŸ™ŒšŸ˜„šŸ” The home buying process went very smoothly because of how professional, punctual and informative she was. I really appreciated her always being very kind and listening to me when I had questions. I honestly felt like she had my best interest at heart, and she worked hard to ensure I got my housešŸ™šŸ§”. I highly recommend her to anyone who wants things done right! šŸ‘Œ

This is the second time I have used Member First Mortgage. The first time was a VA purchase, the second time a VA refinance to lower my interest rate. Both times were fast, professional and everyone I worked with was courteous, friendly and extremely helpful. I have referred all my friends to Member First Mortgage.

Very poor. There was horrible communication, Iā€™d didnā€™t always receive calls back. My online only appraisal was $40K less than my homeā€™s value. This was one of the worst experiences Iā€™ve ever had. I didnā€™t know who my consultant was. I was contacted by at least 3 different people. Horrible.

I recently acquired a new home using Members First Morgage. Joe and Paige are awesome! They got me a great interest rate, I got what I was quoted and then some. Absolutely would recommend these great folks. Professional, extremely courteous and no false promises. My credit wasn't great so I had to fix a few things, but they helped us every step of the way.

Thanks guys

This is our second mortgage with member first and we couldn't be happier. We never have to worry about them selling our mortgage to anyone, not like the banks were doing back before the crash. That is one thing we both loved about member first, besides the fact they're very easy to work with. The man that worked with us, Jim Thelen is the very best. He made it so easy for us and was always there if either of us had questions and he went out of his way to get our closing's to come together. I will always work with member first and LAFCU.

I am glad I did not read these reviews before I did my refinancing with Member First. I most likely would not have used them. But honestly, while I did have a small gliche with them, the overall experience was really smooth. This was my first time doing a refinancing and I thought the process would have been very cumbersome and difficult but with online service, and being able to sign all my documents online, I think it was great. I was in constant contact with them via email and even if I called to talk they were always available. I am so sorry that it was not as smooth for others who worked with them.

I was referred to Member First from a friend who used them, I myself was not a credit union member, I am so glad I was referred to them, as a first time homebuyer I didn't know what to expect, but the loan officer walked me through the process and kept me informed the entire time, my realtor was also pleasantly surprised how well it went. Because of the great service I received, I started an account with a local credit union, and I am able to make my mortgage payment right at the credit union!
I cant thank the staff at member first enough for making this transaction easy for me.

horrible nightmare

I applied for a mortgage 4/25/14, we still haven't closed. Whenever I submit requested documents, weeks go by as I am left in the dark about what the next step is going to be. Then I'm asked for additional documents that could have been requested of me originally, but weren't, then another couple weeks go by, and the cycle repeats. I bought homeowners insurance that was effective 2 weeks ago, on a home I don't own yet. Documents take an unnecisarily long amount of time to get to the underwriter. I have no idea what the closing costs are, I have been told several different "estimates", and been asked to signed documents with inaccurate numbers. This is only a 33k loan, I have great income, great credit, great job history, and money in the bank, so I'm sure the problem is not me. I'm 8 months pregnant and assumed this would be over long ago so I could get a little painting done before the baby arrives, but that won't be happening. What a joke of a company. At least the mortgage consultant was honest and said they could use 20 more staff members to handle all the loans they have. I hope this review will help them out and decrease their number of applicants.

It's really strange for me to read some of these bad reviews about Member First because I must say, I had a really good experience. I can't believe some of the things people are saying about a lack of any communication, I had the complete opposite occur. My Mortgage Consultant (yes, one consultant was provided to me and stuck with me throughout the processs) was very helpful and knowledgable, and he also never lost one document! I have to wonder if many of these poor reviewers simply had a bad Mortgage Consultant, because I can clearly see how having a good one makes this a less stressful process than I ever imagined it could be. As a single, first time homebuyer, I can't imagine going through this process without having someone to help me through from start to finish. I would defiitely reccomend Member FIrst Mortgage to anyone who asks

I just recently purchased a home, my Credit Union referred me to Member First Mortgage, and I am so glad they did!

My loan officer was awesome, I had a tight deadline to work with and other lenders told me they could not make it happen.... From the start they were up front with the process, the costs, rates, etc, and they helped me get into a home within a 15 day timeframe!

I read some of the reviews listed here and I could not disagree more, I was given a list of items needed, I provided that list of items and back to them promptly and the process went through without a hitch.

I would recommend anyone to this company who wants to work with someone that will treat you like a person and not a number like most banks and mortgage brokers, this company was a true breath of fresh air.

I have to agree with the other reviewers. We got a mortgage through members first and they were completely awful to work with. The loan officer was unresponsive and quoted us numbers that did not end up being the final result. It took weeks to get any numbers we asked for and took until two days before closing to the payment we would be making each month and the amount we had to bring to closing. We worked with two different people at members first and had to sign and send some docs multiple times because they did not work together. It was an extremely difficult and convoluted process and I would not recommend this mortgage company.

I agree to other posts, but there are some workarounds and benefits going with Members First.

Benefit: It's amazingly low interest rate, I got for 2.5% which I am sure nobody in market can beat that.

Here are few things you have to do

If you want your process go smoothly, Send all of your scanned documents through email so they cannot loose it.. I did same after reading these reviews.

It takes more time that other lenders around 40 - 45 days, but you have to constantly keep in touch with your loan officer to expedite this process... They won't contact you , you have to make sure everything is going smooth, after all its credit union.

Here's how my process went.

24 January - Sent Documents & locked Rare

31 January - Got house appraised

8 Feb - some review question and asked for Homeowners Insurance Info

1 March - Closing

I had to take extension for one more week from seller's realtor, cause it was week late and on that extended week also we closed on last day so it was kind of little worrying.

One more thing, If you don't have your bank account with one of their credit unions, then you have to deposit your check to one of their bank's branch which takes 3 days to clear.. so it adds up to your processing time.. I had to go through same for Appraisal Fee and Condo Association Charge.

It was my first time buying house, I won't say it was smooth but glad atleast could close on time and now I am living in my new house.

Hope its helpful for new buyers

I have to agree with the other...

I have to agree with the other comments. I tried going going with Member First Mortgage due to the partnership with them and my Credit Union. Their communication is non existant. They request the same paperwork over and over. The documents do not seem to get to the underwriter. After almost 3 months of being extremely patient and giving them the benefit of the doubt and being "assured" that I would be given a call within 4 days I recieved an email requesting the same documentation I had sent oringinally and another two times. I have taken my business elsewhere. Hopefully they will take a look at their process and see what is not working. I would strongly advise looking elsewhere.

Choose somewhere else

We recently just closed on our house and our first time home buying experience was ruined because of here. Our loan officer kept losing our documents, not faxing everything to the underwriter after we repeatedly sent him copies of copies, and was not a communicator. We recently had an issue of them not requesting our property tax documents from the city so they were sent to us to pay even tho we have an escrow account. That was another hassle to deal with. I would recommend going elsewhere for your mortgage if you can. It isn't worth almost losing your house because time is apparently not of the essence to them.
