The Kentwood Cat Clinic is a wonderful place! I drove an hour and a half to have my cat receive the radioactive iodine treatment. She's now happy and healthy. The staff was wonderful. My cat is a bit grouchy with strangers and the staff/vets took extra time to treat her patiently and with kindness even though she's a bit snappy. I just loved the clinic. I wish we lived closer. All in all I would strongly recommend this facility to any cat owner.

Exceptionally Pleased

I'm so glad that I found Dr. Sadek at Cat Clinic North. I was considering putting my cat down because of information my previous Vet. had given me. Thanks to Dr Sadeks training, experience and compassion my cat will live many years. I definetly recomend Kentwood Cat Clinic and Cat Clinic North.

High Prices Slow Service, Cat Died Waiting

Our first visit here, they gave me an estimate of $450-500 to try to figure out what was ailing our 6 year old cat, who had stopped eating about a week before.

We had them do the first half of the tests (blood tests for $200) so we can figure it out step by step.

They didn't get back to me with the results until 3 days later, after I had called three times and finally got so angry at them I ended up yelling at the receptionist.

The doctor finally called back, to tell us that he couldn't tell what was wrong from the blood tests, so we needed an xray.

By this time, the cat was so sickly that when they saw her again, he said she'd be dead within thirty minutes, and he couldn't xray her in that condition.

They gave me another estimate of $500 to stabilize her and xray her, but they were going to close in an hour, so she'd need to be transported to an Emergency Hospital where it would be $2000 per day til they can figure out what's wrong with her.

Not having this budget to treat her, I sadly had to have her euthanized to save her from her agony.

Had we gotten the blood test results on the next day (which was what they told me they would do), she would have been well enough to get her xray then.

Our sympathy to Gootched for the loss of their cat. It is so hard to lose a much loved member of the family. A cat that has not eaten in a week is seriously ill. They may have swallowed a foreign object or poisonous plant, developed a life threatening disorder as kidney failure or pancreatitis, or have a host of other illnesses. To help them we need to put together the history, physical exam findings, lab test results, and x-ray results to determine the cause and the best treatment for that particular cat’s illness. The sicker the pet, the more involved and costly testing and treatment usually are to help the pet. Although veterinary costs are much less expensive than human medical costs, they are still an unanticipated and significant expense. Often, especially in these difficult times, our clients need us to prioritize tests and do the best we can within our client’s limited economic resources. We then treat their pet supportively given the limited information we are able to obtain. This may be less effective than treatment targeted to the specific illness. Even after stabilization, very sick patients may still need to be transferred to a 24 hour critical care facility to deliver the necessary care and treatment. Animal emergency hospitals provide this care and we will recommend the patient be transferred for this level of constant care when needed. 24 hour critical care is always significantly more expensive due to increased staff, facility, and equipment costs. Most routine referral lab results are typically available in 1-2 days. Some in house lab tests may be available the same day, but these tests usually provide less information at greater cost. Many times a frustrating game of “telephone tag” occurs with clients when trying to communicate test results. We leave a message to call for results and the pet owner calls back when we are seeing other patients or after we are closed. Sometimes another household member listens to the message and forgets to relay this to the pet’s primary care giver. Sometimes lab results do take longer due to laboratory courier transport problems due to weather or equipment issues. If we see a patient who is rapidly worsening and has a very poor prognosis, significant pain or discomfort that is worsening, we have to recommend humane euthanasia to relieve the cat’s suffering. Difficult as it is, as pet lovers our final gift to our pets is to not have them suffer at the end of their lives. Respectfully, Tammy Sadek DVM Diplomate, ABVP Feline Practice
