I like my haircut! So stylish!

Great experience no matter what location I go to. I am always immediately greeted by a smiling face and offered a drink. As far as a men's cut goes, I get shampooed twice and given a hot towel. Nothing beats the quality service that I receive each time I visit one of the locations.

I wouldn't recommend this place to anybody. My hair was purple, they wouldn't refund me or even recognize the problem. I talked with the manager of the salon, and the general manager. They basically ignored the issue. I understand that mistakes happens, but there is no excuse for negligence. Save yourself the headache and pick a different salon with good service. I had a few other issues with them that day also.

Went in for a trim and got the worst haircut ever. Stylist was 20mins late and I think she rushed my service. She took about 5 to 6 inches off the very top layer of my hair and then the rest just about an inch. We agree on one inch during my brief consult. It looked like she put a bowl on my head and took a layer off around it. She curled it before showing me and so I was skeptical but really noticed when I went home and straightened out the curls. I called on Monday and ended up having to drive to a further location to have a top stylists "look" at it. Then had to wait to hear back on what the salon would do to help me. Had to drive back to the further location again the next day only to get the ends cleaned up which meant more cutting. The stylist "fixing" it was very knowledgable and nice but admitted nothing could be done of course to give me back the hair that was cut off. I know have ridiculous layers with very fine hair. I keep it pulled back best I can everyday. Design one did refund my h/c and didn't charge me for the "fix". But after 3 trips and a h/c that makes me cry it is not making me feel any better.

Recently I tried Design 1 Salon on Plainfield AVE and it was the best service hands down. I went for a message on 1/23/2012, my appointment was set up for 8:30 AM but I got there early at around 8. Right away they moved it up no questions asked. The customer service was intentional and welcoming. They brought me to a private relaxation room and offered me a beverage. After waiting only a few minutes (Abby) the massage therapist greeted me. Once in the room the mood was already set, the massage table was comfortable and warm. My massage was the best I have had and I will say hands down that the value of the service outweighed the price! This has not been the first great experience with Design 1, every appointment has been better than the last. I am picky about who does my hair and when I tried Design 1 back in September 2011 I was worried about the price but I was quickly comforted by the stylist intentional care for how I wanted my hair. I have been at Design 1 since and I will continue being a loyal customer. I have recommended them to everyone because I know they will not be disappointed.

20 yrs ago this was a nice place to go. Those days are long, long gone. Have their own annoying system they subject clients to when you call for an appt: "That stylist is a level 14A, so you'll pay $20 more and her 18-yr-old assistant will do all the work you pay top dollar for." Owners made bad decision of removing private pedicure rooms - nail techs told me they begged owners not to, but they wouldn't listen to their employees or clients. Last time I went for a pedicure, I specifically booked the less visible area - then when I got there, was moved to the most visible, because 2 people wanted to book together so I got "bumped" so Design1 could make more money (they didn't - I left). Last time I went for a haircut, the stylist got confrontational with me saying, "Every time I blow dry your hair I lost $50!" - I asked her to dry and style my hair instead of having her very young, gum-smacking assistant do it - and all the while she whined about money money money the salon mgr stood there and watched her, letting her get away with that behavior. Bye bye Design 1 - you used to havea monopoly, but there are LOTS of better places now!

I just went on 12-23-11 for a haircut and style from Beth Ann at the Plainfield location. I requested a more experienced stylist and she was the first one available. She was the rudest and most insulting person I have met while getting paying for a service. She was very bossy and spent several minutes telling me I should break up with my boyfriend and move out of town to go to college. I got the impression that she didn't like men because I didn't tell her anything about my boyfriend at all and she immediately told me to leave him as soon as she found out I was involved with someone. She then spent the rest of the time giving me more bossy "advice".... telling me that I can't use any styling appliances ever again, that I have to stop coloring my hair, and arguing with me for about 10 minutes when I tried to politely tell her that I am aware of the damage it may cause, but don't want to change anything or to do as she wished which was to get low lights from now on. She wouldn't take no for an answer. I was so uncomfortable that I wanted to leave and I definitely won't return. She had nothing nice to say and couldn't have been less professional. You would think I could have gotten better customer service for the $53 she charged me for the cut. Guess not. Won't ever go back! I will return to Panopolous for a just as good or better haircut, and a stylist that is actually friendly! I love my usual stylist. She cuts my hair twice...once wet then dry and she only charges me like $26. Design One is a rip off!

I have gone to Shelly at Design One on Plainfield for approximately 5 years. She is the best nail tech I have ever found. I hope she never retires!!! Well worth every penny. I get acrylics, but she offers a variety of nail types.

My hair stylist gave me great tips for my hair. They helped me so much to make my hair stronger and healthier. They have great customer service and are very knowledgeable about each and every product.

Very nice salon and relaxing Spa experience.
