I took my estate collection of Barber half dollars, Walking Liberty half dollars, Franklin half dollars, Kennedy silver half dollars, 1939 Washington silver quarter, Mercury dimes, Roosevelt silver dimes, silver round and other coin-collectors' sets, 1971 through 1982 U.S. Mint proof sets, 1883 Liberty Head "No Cents" nickel, Buffalo nickels, Jefferson nickels, 1913 Buffalo "Raised Ground" nickel, 1909 Lincoln VDB penny, 1943 Lincoln steel wheat penny, and other Lincoln wheat pennies to their Glendale store at the appointed meeting time. Each coin in my collection (including every penny) had been carefully graded, labeled, protected in 2.5-inch mylar coin flips, and meticulously documented in a detailed spreadsheet organized by mint/production year in preparation for my appointment.

The owner ignored my polite greeting, never asked my name, and curtly asked me what I brought in. She then began impatiently pawing through my estate collection haphazardly, refusing to go through the collection per the detailed spreadsheet I had specially prepared for our meeting. With a rude "Next!" to rush me through my collection as quickly as possible, she very impatiently and abruptly assigned values to each item without regard to mint year and coin condition/grade and flatly refusing to even look at the detailed spreadsheet I had prepared for her. She even went so far as to ridicule me for protecting each coin (including the Lincoln wheat pennies) in individually labeled 2.5-inch mylar flips, rudely stating the flips were worth more than the coin.

After her extremely rushed and impatient review of my collection, she offered me an overall average of 37% of the minimum retail value I had identified based on multiple well-respected numismatic websites.

The bottom line: Avoid BJ's Stamps & Coins unless you're completely clueless about what your coins are worth and/or don't mind getting cheated.
