I remember coming in, my cat Anubis had passed away only a few weeks prior. They were talkative and helpful. And we talked about cats who we've loved for a while. We discussed the type of cat I was looking for. We went back into the cat room. I was encouraged to touch, pet, hold, play with, talk to the cats and kittens. I found my newest love that afternoon.

The people here are friendly, kind and are VERY eager to help you find your new companion that will suit your life and to give these beings a loving forever home.

I plan on coming back real soon to look for a dog to add to my family!!

I don't know what these other bad reviews are for. I found the staff here to be quite wonderful and helpful. The process was quick and painless. They were very kind and answered all of my questions. They work with the dogs. For instance my dog has trouble on a leash, but the work they had already done by the time I adopted him has made my job much easier. They gave me my new best friend and I will always be grateful for that.

I've been in the area for a decade now and have heard awful things about this shelter by those that have worked or volunteered there. I have had to call them on occasion about found dogs, animal cruelty, etc. I have never been impressed by this place. I found a dog and had called them to see if owner called there about lost dog. The owner did call so I took dog there thinking they would hold it for owner. While waiting for the girl at the front desk to put her chicken nuggets down and talk to me I found out that they would have to fill out a ton of paper work just to hold the dog for 5 minutes until owner got there. This chick did not stop stuffing her fat face the entire time that she was dealing with me. I waited for the owner outside. No one cared. I have never seen any compassion from the paid folks there. They deem scared dogs aggressive and kill them. It wreaks of urine all the time. With all of the employees and volunteers you would think they could keep that small place clean. I've been to kennels with 1/10th of the employees and 2 times the number of dogs and they are spotless! They should go down to BARCS in Baltimore City of all places and learn how a shelter should be ran. Sad part is that it's the animals that always suffer. I donate to local rescues, but this place will never get a dime of my money.

WHY IN GODS NAME WOULD YOU GIVE THEM 3 PEOPLE IN EAST BERLIN ON FISH & GAME RD. A CHANCE FOR A YEAR TO CHANGE THIER WAYS. Because of that there are 51 animals DIED OR SICK. Why did NO ONE ON THAT ROAD REPORT WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH THESE ANIMALS. SOMEONE HAD TO KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON. THEY NEED TO GO TO JAIL!!!!!! NOT WALKING AROUND LIKE THEY DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WRONG.. THEY NEED JAIL TIME. THEY NEED PUNISHED!!! THAT OFFICER FROM THE SPCA COULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS. WHAT WERE THEY DOING WITH THESE ANIMALS? THESE WERE LIVING BREATHING CREATURES. THEY DID NOT DESERVE THIS. WHY IS THESE SICK PEOPLE ALOUD TO STILL HAVE 3 HORSES. THEY SHOULD NOT BE ALOUD TO HAVE ANY ANIMALS EVER AGAIN. PLEASE DON'T LET THIS SCUM GET AWAY WITH THIS!!!!!!LORD HAVE MERCY ON THEIR SOULS!!!! REPENT IN JESUS NAME.

DO NOT patronize this shelter!! I contacted them in regards to rescuing stray cats for adoption. They told me to purchase a live trap and when the cats were caught, to either "ring their necks" or "put a bullet thru their heads". This is a HUMANE SOCIETY????
