The owner-chefs are two brothers from Sicily (Rosario and Nuncio Incorvaia) who prepare Italian food exquisitely with traditional recipies. We live on the island, and had passed their restaurant frequently on the way home to the West End, so we dropped in for lunch yesterday.
Sapori offers $10 lunch specials which include salad (very fresh and crunchy, with balsamic vinegar and oil dressing), Italian bread (herb-seasoned olive oil $1 extra) and a choice of light and crusty panini (choose your filling) or al-dente pasta (spaghetti, cannelloni, manicotti or ravioli -- choose your filling) with choice of ragu or marinara sauce. I chose the cannelloni with salciccia (Italian sausage) and cheese filling and ragu sauce. Heavenly. The sauce was just comfortably spicy enough to tingle the tongue without causing you to break out in a sweat; the meat finely ground and savory. My wife chose the panini with Sicilian meatballs and ragu sauce, which I sampled and found delightful -- perfect blend of quality ingredients and spices.
Located a bit off the beaten path on Stewart Road, a couple of blocks from the Premiere movie theater, the restaurant is inviting and unpretentious, immaculate, uncluttered, bright and airy with clean architectural lines. The brothers welcomed my request to visit the ample kitchen, which, unsurprisingly, was also immaculate, tidy and well ordered.
This is the real deal, folks, for locals to visit regularly and bring their visitors to sample the best the Island offers by way of Italian cuisine at an "in" place they might otherwise overlook.
