Online pickup dept needs improvements

Left the store about an hour ago. One really nice young man helped me check a price on pants that were on a clearance rack, but not ticketed. They were not on sale, so I placed them on a rack with like items. As I continued to browse and shop I found several non ticketed items on sale racks. I noticed a female associate folding clothes at a register. No other customers were present. I asked if she could scan some items(2) for a price. She told me "no, these registers are turned off". I work in retail, all you have to do is sign on. She did point in a direction and tell me there was a price checker. Unfamiliar with the store and that location it took me a while to find it. When I did, they were on sale and I was ready to check out after being in the store for 2 hours. I saw an associate come to shoes and a customer walked in front of me to the register. The associate told her she could not do exchanges, they were only taking them up front. She said my registers are not working. The woman was upset, saying she had small kids and it was difficult to wait in the long line up front. That line was huge, had been since I walked in. So as that lady walks off, I asked "your registers aren't working"? She said, yes they are. I said oh, ok. I'm ready to check out. She said do you have shoes? I said no. She said we are only checking out shoes. There was no one, absolutely not one customer in line, waiting for shoes or browsing. She told me I could go to a register in back( the one that wasn't on according to the other associate) or up front. I explained I would just leave my items there in the buggy before I would stand in that line. Unbelievable! You job depends on sales, you had no customers, and were standing at the register doing nothing, but would not check out customers. Wrong attitude towards business and customer service. It must be an associate and management attitude as well, seeing how 2 associates seemed similar in responses.
