I had been going with my daughter to see ALSA for the over7 months. She had already gone thru their requred 6 month Nutrition Class, an Endoscopy and a Colonoscopy, a Psychiatric Evaluation and numerous lab tests.. My Daughter was then told that she had to lose some weight BEFORE she could have this surgery...



For those 7 months whenever I had sat in the waiting room waiting for my daughter, I spoke with other patients and or their support people....Some of these patients had been waiting almost a year. Some of those people had had their surgeries within 4 months. After talking to several people I found a common thread. INSURANCE. If these people are on Medi-Cal or a cut-rate Insurance they are forced to endure a lot of medical tests, 6 months of Dieticians, and are always told that the insurance REQUIRES all these tests.



So, I contacted our Insurance Company directly. I explained what I had seen and witnessed. My Insurance company stated that the tests she had taken were not REQUIRED by the Insurance Company but by the Physician. The Insurance Comapny then suggested that my daughter seek another Barriactric Surgery Center. They wouldnt say anything else, but again made the suggestion to seek another Center

My daughter and I then started exploring the possibility of another Center and found one. A top rated one. She went in with her medical records, they were reviewed. She had to do some blood work. 4 weeks later she had her surgery and is doing great.



I dont recommend ALSA at all. My beautiful, self-confident, outgoing daughter was becoming morose, depressed, and withdrawn. All due to the long wait, the condescending attitudes, and all of the unnecessary tests. I am glad we found another Center for her. She is upbeat, hopeful, and looking forward to being a normal size.
