For anyone with a salt water tank, just know that they are pretty much they are selling us Fox Lake water. I am very disappointed in this Something Fishy, that they knowingly sell poor water to salt water enthusiasts who put lots of time, work and money to have a beautiful aquarium. A local shop is nice but they don't change their filters for RO water. After starting to use their water, my anemone closed up never to open again and eventually died, All of my beautiful corals died, 1 clownfish died and my purple tang is ill (white face). Not even a day after a water change my rocks (now coral-less) turn a bright unnatural green, brown algae is instantly over my glass and the back wall. I recently went to a trusted fish store tested the Something Fishy "RO Water" and it was proven that Something Fishy water is of horrible quality.

My husband and I have shopped this pet store every week for over a year now. They are always helpful, knowledgeable, and very down to earth. We purchased a lizard from them just a few weeks ago and extremely pleased with her. The owner and all his employees are amazing!! Thank you for all your hard work and friendly service!!:)

The Guys are great there owner Ron and Nick and Zach all very helpful I recommend them higher getting ready to set up my 2nd tank 150 gallon salt water tank with them. Dana Remax

Thanks Jessica for your input on the Store. I will try to answer each of your complaints one by one. 1) We understand that when many pets are put into a small confined area yes there may be the smell of animals. In addition to that smell we are located in a building that was built in the 1930's so some of that smell is just old building age. We disinfect daily with bleach and have been working with the landlord to update the air circulation and filtering in the store. Animal bedding is changed every morning. 2) The kitten you speak of was healthy and checked by our vet. Sometimes animals much like human beings get runny noses and goopy eyes. This kitten was given his booster shots that week and may had a reaction to the shot causing this. I would like to tell you the kitten has been since sold and was taken to the new owners vet and was given a clean bill of health. 3) Puppies are maintained and groomed by Scruffy to Fluffy here in Foxlake. The puppies are housed in enclosures which have plastic grates on the bottom and are rarely kept alone. In some cases the puppies poop does not fall through the grate and one puppy steps in it and plays with the other puppy getting some poop on the other one or even themselves ....if our employees are helping customers at this time it may go unnoticed for a few minutes, rest assured when an employee takes notice of this the puppy is bathed, dried and put back. 4) This is completely a flat out lie. All animals have fresh PREMIUM food and PURIFIED water in their enclosures. Water bottles are hung from ALL enclosures and are filled with PURIFIED water at 10 am, 4 pm and again at 9pm. All animals are checked hourly and if needed more water added. Our pets are purchased from local breeders , many here in Lake County!!! 5) The hamster you speak of was left at our front door in a small box in the middle of a heat wave. Instead of killing this hamster we decided to put this poor little guy in the population with his friends. He was making a great recovery based off the shape he was in when he was found at our front door. I SUPPOSE WE COULD HAVE JUST KILLED HIM, however we here at SOMETHING FISHY feel every animal has a chance to recover, and he was NEVER offered for sale. If you would have asked this poor little guys fate instead of complaining about it we would have been happy to share his story with you. 6) We understand we can not make everyone happy, and from time to time there are complaints. However your complaints are unfounded as we have had a few surprise inspections by the Illinois Dept. of Agriculture and continually pass with flying colors. All our inspections are posted on the wall for anyone to view. Our animals are purchased from reputable sources and many we have been doing business with for over 10 years. We have placed 100's of pets in peoples homes for more than 15 years and yes there are the occasional mishaps, but as a whole we do a pretty darn good job caring for our animals while they are in our care!!!!

Contrary to the last review, this is the best pet store I have ever been to. The staff is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I live about an hour away and am happy to come in whenever necessary to shop for my two dogs and two cats. I have never had an issue or seen Ron or any of his employees treating the customers like what was said in the previous review. They are very customer service oriented and absolutely go out of their way to help the customer. They have a wonderful unique selection at GREAT prices, unlike several of the other area stores. Shopping here is definitely beneficial, in more ways than one, as you will learn tons about the proper care for your animal as well as get what is needed at extraordinarily cheap prices, for extremely good quality items! I will ALWAYS shop here, GO SOMETHING FISHY!

I would like to comment about the below post..... But start by saying I have purchased an array of animals and supplies from this shop and have never had an issue. Posts like the one below should not be taken into consideration when shopping for an animal. After four months of ownership by the customer, Something Fishy is no longer in care of the animal and is no longer to blame for its death . The customer is assuming they purchased an old hamster with no evidence of age, and yes hamsters when young are extremely hard to sex. For all we know the animal may have been dropped, left by a window, or many other reasons why it passed, no of which may be the fault of the pet shops.

I bought a hamster there for my daughter and they said it was a baby and it was OLD!!! It died after 4 months. We had it only 1 month and it had a litter of babies and we were told it was a male. When I called and told them they just laughed, oh you can never be sure of these things. THEN DONT TELL THE CUSTOMERS THE SEX!!! I will never shop there again, infact I have seen another post about them and their hamster died in only a few months too. I know they do not live love but 4 months is devestating to a 9 year old. I thought I ewas doing a good thing going to a family business, but never Something Fishy again, AND the name fits this business perfectly!!!

Love it and love that if they don't have what you want they will order it. Very friendly and love Ron.

My ex-husband bought our daughter 3 hamsters and 2 rats from Something Fishy. After only a couple months, a hamster died. Within a month of purchase, one of the rats died. Now another of the hamsters is very sick. They were all very well taken care of and fed and cared for exactly as instructed. It's clear they all came from either bad breeding or poor conditions at the pet store.



My daughter and her dad went to Something Fishy and told them what had happened and asked what they could do to nurse the sick hamster back to health. When my exhusband told the manager about the dead hamster the employee actually said "So what - just don't bring it in here." As if that wasn't bad enough, he continued to be extremely rude and beligerant in front on my already upset 10-year-old daughter and several other customers who were clearly appalled by this manager's behavior. We never asked for money back or anything - just advice!!!



My family has spent thousands of dollars at Something Fishy over the years, purchasing a purebred dog, several small animals, numerous fish, and countless products, food, and equipment. I can't believe they would employ this person but he has cost the store thousands in future sales. Myself, my parents (who purchased the dog), my ex-husband, and all our other friends and family will never set foot in this store again, and I'm filling a complaint with the BBB.



Please pass on this message to everyone you can. DON'T SHOP AT SOMETHING FISHY!!!
