From its beginnings wildcatting for oil in West Texas, the Sid Richardson Carbon and Energy Co. has developed carbon black manufacturing and marketing as well as natural gas gathering, processing and marketing. The Company is also affiliated with a major independent oil and gas exploration entity, Bass Enterprises Production Company. The environmental department of the company actively monitors all existing and planned operations to ensure compliance with national, state, and local regulations. Sid W. Richardson founded the company in 1947 to enhance the value of his newly discovered Keystone Field in west Texas. In partnership with his only nephew, Perry R. Bass, he began a sustained period of controlled expansion. In addition to its gas processing operations, Richardson has become a manufacturer of furnace carbon black, a primary non-rubber component in tires, through its Sid Richardson Carbon Company.
