After spending several hours perusing books at the Half Price Books near Ridgmar, I stumbled upon the 5th edition of a marketing book which Half Price was selling for $8. Amazon however sells the book for only $.01, since two later versions of the book have been published already.

I went and asked the manager if I could buy the book for $4 instead, which would be the same price as if I bought from Amazon plus the shipping and handling. The manager made me wait several minutes to fact-check my info, then insisted that although I was right about the price, the store did not match Amazon prices. The manager refused to lower the price of the book, and told me that if I wanted the lower price I should go to Amazon.

I am very disturbed that the manager of this store was unwilling to bring the price down by even $4 for a book which was clearly overpriced. I took his advice and bought the book from Amazon, and plan to take all my future business to Amazon since clearly they have the better prices and care more about customer satisfaction.

Had great hopes for selling nu...

Had great hopes for selling numerous used books to the store. Took 4 full-to-the-top big paper grocery bags and 2 boxes of various paperback & hardback books covering all genres. However, after waiting an hour for an employee to go through them, sort them, look at them, think about them, consult others about them and be called away to help other customers (although their were numerous other employees around), my "helper" finally graciously offered me the great sum of $6.45 for all of them. What a gimmick! I think they drag it out for as long as possible to set the tone, and then offer you basically nothing so that you just give up and say "forget it! You can just have them!" Then they turn around and sell them for a nice profit. (I bought 3 paperback books, while I was waiting, spending over $11 dollars. I regret that, but I think it's also part of the plan of dragging the process out.) Having driven from Weatherford, spending $20 in gas round trip, was the insult to the injury, so to speak, not even counting the 2 hours of my wasted time. Next time, I will just go to Mel's Used Books in Weatherford when I want to sell books. At least there you are treated fairly and your business is appreciated. The rest of the story is I loaded all the books back up into their various bags and boxes and just drove them to Goodwill. I would rather give them away than be insulted.

Books Galore

I needed three books for school and couldn't find them on books.com or any other book store. I took a chance and went to Half Price Books and found all three and then found another that I needed for last semester. I paid $25.00 for all three books, and the school wanted to charge me $75.00 per book. This is the best place to shop when you are looking for hard to find books. Great place.
