Strate Welding Supply Co was founded in 1949 by Russell and Gordon Strate. Russell had worked for Air Reduction Company prior to and after his military service during World War II. Gordon (the younger brother) had been a Navy pilot during the war and served as an instructor after the end of the war. Both sought the challenge of operating their own business. With the help of Air Reduction Strate Welding Supply opened its doors in an old gasoline station on Delaware Avenue in Buffalo New York. The growth of Company continued as the post war economy prospered. In 1951 the company was incorporated making it Strate Welding Supply Co. Inc. During the fifties the Company worked with many of the companies in Western New York growing as the area grew. In the early sixties a second location for the Company became a reality when the R. C. Pasch Co was acquired. Growth continued as the Company continued its service to the area and Airco changed its marketing philosophy by directing more of its efforts through its distributors. In the early seventies a branch was opened in Olean New York and a location in Lockport New York was acquired. The eldest of the Strate Family (George) worked for Airco in one of their outlets in Jacksonville Florida. Conversations between the two brothers lead Russell to inquire about the opportunity for acquiring the Jacksonville operation. The sale was finalized in 1974. In the same year a facility was started in Gainesville Florida. By this time Strate Welding Supply Co., Inc had close to fifty employees. Through the efforts of the dedicated people who make up the Company growth continued. In the late seventies a branch was opened in St. Augustine Florida. In 1984 Airco inquired as to Strate's interest in buying the distribution operations they owned in Southeast Georgia. This move added five more locations. At the same time acquisitions were made in Western New York that included an Acetylene Plant and the distribution network of Liquid Carbonic in Western New York. Before the end of the decade another distributor was purchased and blended into Strate's operations. Strate Welding Supply continues to look at the markets served for opportunities to grow while serving the users in the areas. With multiple locations, a large fleet of vehicles and equipment the effort continues to be the same as it was when the Company was founded. Provide quality products and service to the users in the markets served. The goal is to meet or exceed the users' expectations and give extra value to the products or services used. The future is based on the belief that the customer's needs are the same as those of this Company. With a diversity of product lines and representing the major manufacturers of welding equipment there is a vast resource to call upon. Complimenting the vendors represented are the equipment owned and the training of the staff of Strate Welding Supply Co., Inc Whether it is a home project or an aircraft carrier Strate can provide the equipment and supplies to do the job. From balloons to laser mixtures a gas can be provided. A small cylinder to bulk product on site Strate can meet the need.
