Harlan Elementary School, founded in1955, is affiliated with the Florence City School District. Located in Florence, Ala., the school offers a variety of educational and cocurricular programs to more than 400 students in grades kindergarten through four. It offers various programs, including English, arts, music, science, social studies, mathematics and physical education. Harlan Elementary School also offers reading, accelerated reader, computer education, media studies and special education programs. The school offers Life-Skills, a program for children with disabilities, and also provides several after school programs. It has a parent-teacher association that focuses on increasing awareness and participation in curriculum and policy development, by enhancing communication between home and school.
