I am so glad that we found Carriage Hill Kennels. They were so great with my very needy Border Collie, Cooper. Now I can breath easy while on vacation. I am going to use their day care and grooming services now as well. They are a class act.

I just read online on Pittsburgh lost pets that they lost someone's dog and had to cut their vacation short so they could come home and look for their dog.

During my daughter's wedding weekend, we had four dogs at this kennel. They all came home four days later clean, well fed and well cared for. As compared to other kennels we've used in the South Hills, this place is great.

Left my dog and cat with this kennel last summer. Brought my pets home. Cat acting strange. On day 2 of being home had to rush cat to the vet at 1 in the mourning. Turned out my cat had swallowed a very long fishing line. We do not hunt or fish, Cat needed surgery. Can't prove he swallowed this fishing line at this kennel but he was fine when we dropped him off at this kennel. Will NEVER bring my pets to this kennel again!!!!!! If I could prove my cat swallowed the fishing line there, I would have made the kennel pay for the surgery!

I would definitely recommend Carriage Hill to anyone in the South Hills if they needed to board their dog! I was a bit worried about how my dog would react to being away from home for a few days - she is a very shy dog with new people, and I admit I'm a bit of an overprotective owner. I have heard horror stories of other kennels, but when I came to Carriage Hill for a tour, I was immediately at ease. Other kennels I visited smelled of urine, but Carriage Hill was very clean. It is seriously the cutest little place, and Diane was very accommodating with my concerns for my dog. I called once while I was away to check in, and they were very reassuring and able to provide me with details about how much my dog was eating and what her general mood seemed to be, which let me know that they knew exactly who my dog was and that she was indeed being well taken care of. I have absolutely no reservations about leaving my dog in Diane and Dennis's care again.

Carriage Kills Kennels

My dog received surgery for an intestinal blockage in July of 2010. At the beginning of August, our vet said that he was stable enough to be boarded while we were going on vacation and suggested Carriage Hill. We called a week before we left for vacation, and they said there was availability for both of our dogs and that his condition would no be a problem. We dropped them off with his medications with typed instructions. Our dog was supposed to finish his antibiotics while at the kennel and was also supposed to have his cone removed while eating. The day after we boarded them, we received a phone call asking if we were still bringing our dogs to be boarded. They had already been there for twenty four hours. We called every day to check on him (she insists we only called twice) and asked how he was doing. Each time, they insisted that he was fine, but he would not eat with the cone on. Obviously they did not read the instructions that told them to take if off while he was eating. We were so concerned about him, that we left early from our vacation and arrived to pick them up in the morning instead of that evening. When we got there, their information was written on a piece of notebook paper and there was great confusion on who our dogs were and who was picking them up. There was no paper work, no contract. When they brought our dogs out, the sick one was extremely emaciated, bloated, and vomiting. Diane, the owner, said that he had just became that way right before we got there, No dog declines that fast. We rushed him to the vet, who was appalled at his condition and how no one from the kennel sought medical attention for him. They told us if we would have waited any longer, he probably would have died. He had emergency surgery, and passed away the next day. He was only 3 years old and this was not something that he should have died over if he was taken care of properly. When we began unpacking his things, we realized that the kennel did not give him his antibiotics and their supplements had dogs names written on them that were not ours. We called to stop payment because obviously, neither got the care that we paid for because both dogs were on the supplements. To pour more salt into the wounds, Diane sued us for the couple hundred dollars for their stay. So not only did our dog die under their care, but we were also expected to pay for it. She then began to apologize for the loss of our dog, as we were writing a check to her and insisted that she had nothing to do with it, that her staff was caring for him. As the owner of a business, you take responsibility for the actions of anyone under your employment. If she was genuinely sorry, she would not have sued us in the first place. As other reviews have said, she is full of excuses and I am sure she will have a reasonable explanation for this mishap as well. It baffles me that this is the way a local business is conducted and she still felt she was entitled to anything after the terrible turmoil her business caused my family.

What a great place! I'd sleep here myself if they would let me. Very clean. Karen is one of the nicest people I've ever met and I was thinking about leaving her my dog in my will. Just kidding! Its a great place though and I would recommend Carriage Hill to anyone.

Full of excuses

not happy at all...picked my puppy up from the this kennel today...first they charged me for a large dog when he's a puppy then they gave me his blanket back had to ask me what it looked like (shouldn't it have been in the cage he came out of?) and it had white hair all over it and he's black then the bone I gave them for him to chew on was never touched...needless to say I am wondering exactly how well he was taken care of...=( when I called midweek to check on him the woman told me he was fine didn't bark at all spent lots of time outside with the kids that work there cause he just hung out and followed them around...but when I picked him up and was unhappy about things she told me he wouldn't let them get near him for a couple days he would growl at them and he wouldn't go outside (make up your mind woman) she had excuses why the hair was white...she said it was because the dogs on either side of him were white and they were shedding alot (come on REALLY??) oh and she said the bone was in the cage but he didn't touch it (not possible this puppy has these bones all over my house he loves chewing on them that is why we sent it) and it was given back to me in the same bag I gave it to them in which leads me to believe it never came out of the bag at all...and I paid for playtime don't ever think he left the cage he was all stiff and walking funny like he was weak from just laying around for 10 days...WILL NEVER US THIS PLACE AGAIN AS I DO NOT THINK THEY TAKE GOOD CARE OF THE ANIMALS

The puppy she brought in was an 11 month old male pit bull that weighted at least 75 lbs. That is considered a large dog at our kennel. We do not like to accept any blankets from clients because quite often they get soiled or food or water spilled on them the dogs and end up in our laundry. We have hundreds of bedding items and we cannot keep track of who ownes what. This is the reason why she was asked what her dogs bed looked like. The partitions between the pens are not tight down on the floor so yes some hair can go under them and get on bedding. And alot of dogs are light colored. When this dog came to our kennel, he was fine for a few days-he was friendly. But he started to get stressed the longer he was there. He then started to show aggression towards us. We couldn't get close to him or even talk to him without him growling at us. He was stressed because he missed his owner and this was the first time he was boarded and it was a very long stay. Concerning the rawhides-why wouldn't we give him something that could make him happy? When an animal is away from his normal enviroment and nervous, they are not going to act the same way they do at home. We can't make a dog chew his bones if he doesn't want to. He did get his play sessions when we were able to handle him, but when the aggression started, we couldn't do it. The dogs here are left out four times a day in their own runs (which are 17 ft. long). If we didn't let this dog out for days-how could we possibly clean his pen since we couldn't get near him? We do all that we can to make dogs happy here because we want see them wagging their tails when they come in the door. To be accused of not letting a dog go out for days is absolutely absurd.

I was very nervous leaving my cat for the first time, espically since he had been having some trouble with his eye. Not only did they take WONDERFUL care of him, they gave him his eye drops, and when his eye started to look worse they took him to my vet and started him on his new medicine. When I picked him up after my week long trip his eye looked 100% better. I've never delt with such wonderful people before and they keep their kennel spotless! I give them a 15 out of 10, and will use them in the future.

very clean

We were driving by and decided to stop and take a look around. They lady working was leaving but was gracious and took us for a tour of the place anyway. We were very pleasantly surprise at how clean and orderly the kennel section was. No foul odors or animal waste anywhere. We have visited at least 6 kennels since we moved to the area and Carriage Hill was the nicest we have seen. You can stop in unannounced anytime and they are happy to show you around. This told my husband and I that they have nothing to hide and are proud of their "little gem". We immediately reserved a pen for our vacation.

Saved the best foe last!

I wish we would have found this kennel sooner! Its the best one we have ever used and we have been to several. Its clean and well run and has a home like feel. Karen and Diane are two of the biggest animal lovers we have ever met!

The best Kennel we have ever used!!

Just wanted to let everyone know that we traveled to Pennsylvania for the holidays and brought our dogs along. We boarded them with carriage Hill Kennels for 7 days and were completely satisfied with the experience. The prices were fair and the dogs were clean and happy when we picked them up. This has not always been the case with other places we have used. Thanks again guys!!

Dog's eye scratched while there

I was called 2 days before we were to board our 2 dogs to confirm. Our date of arrival was incorrect, the number of dogs we had coming was incorrect, and the fact that I paid a $75 deposit was not noted. The person I spoke to on the phone even asked if I knew the name of the employee who took our information (misinformation) when we toured the facility. When we arrived back from vacation and went to pick up the dogs, I was dying to see them. I wanted to go back to their "suite" which we did when we dropped them off. I was told we "weren't allowed back there because they're doing construction." I noticed on my one dog's eye what I thought was just the matter they get after sleeping, that hadn't been wiped out. We returned home and were busy unpacking. Later that night, I finally got around to trying to wipe it away and noticed that it was a cut with dried blood. I called the kennel at 11:00 p.m. and left a message, asking for an explanation. I had to call again the next day and leave a second message before I received a return call. Although I had left a detailed message regarding the scratch on his eye, the person I spoke with seemed to have no knowledge of the problem and I had to explain it again. I then asked her what happened, and her reply quite indignantly was "I have no idea." I asked her if there was anybody there who did have an idea and I was told no, if anybody saw it, they would have mentioned it. Because of her rude tone, interrupting me repeatedly and voice dripping with sarcasm, after she asked me why I didn't mention it to anybody when I picked them up (again, reminding her I thought it was just sleep in his eye), I asked to speak to the manager or owner and was told, to my disbelief, that she was the owner. It is mind boggling to me that anybody with this kind of attitude can stay in business, even telling me on the phone about my "sh___y attitude." From the start of the conversation, her voice was confrontational and very unwilling to be helpful or give me any kind of information. She then informed me, again, voice dripping with sarcasm that the construction I was told about was on the roof and had nothing to do with my dog being hurt, if that was what I thought. It was only after a fairly ugly conversation that she even bothered to grudgingly say she was sorry my dog was hurt. I then informed her I would need to take him to the vet, as he had been rubbing his eye continuously and did she not feel responsible for that expense? She obviously knew that was coming because before the words were out of my mouth, she blurted "Read your contract." This would be the contract I had to sign and leave with them when I left the dogs. Having never boarded my dogs before, perhaps I missed that part in there, but obviously according to her, while your dogs are in her care, if they get hurt or injured TOO BAD, your problem, your expense while she cashes your check. I would definitely NEVER leave my dogs there again.

When this client dropped her dogs off for the first time at our kennel-she got very close to our managers face and announced "You have no idea how much I love my dogs." We then realized how "intense" she was. The two dogs stayed with us for a week and they were a pleasure. The evening she came to pick them up, we were very busy. There were other clients in the office waiting to pick their dogs up before she arrived. She came in and wanted to see her dogs immediately. She didn't care about the clients ahead of her. We do not let anyone run through the kennel and upset the dogs. She saw the kennel when she dropped the dogs off. There was no reason to go back and greet her dogs in the pen and have the entire building in an uproar. Without trying to explain all of this to her (we didn't think she would accept this reason anyway)our manager said she couldn't go back because of construction being done. (The work was actually being done on the roof). After taking care of the other customers, we brought her two huskies out, they had a happy reunion and left. I didn't realize until the next day, that she had called at 11:00 PM that night and she was very upset that I didn't call her back! We were sleeping. When I spoke to her the next day, she demanded to know what happened to her dogs eye. Actually it was not the eye as the heading suggests, but below the eye where matter can form after sleeping. The dogs were home for a while before it was noticed to be a scratch. The dog also didn't bother it until she wiped it off. When I told her I didn't know of anything happening to the dog,she became enraged and asked why I didn't know. She said that someone is supposed to be watching them. I explained that we cannot have someone watching her dogs 24 hours a day and we do not have video surveilance here. That was NOT acceptable! Her dogs had playtime in a large yard (by themselves) and were in a suite together playing. There is nothing sharp anywhere to get scratched on. She said it was probably from the construction. That was only on the roof. There was nothing around the dogs yards. The only thing that could have scratched her dogs face is a tooth or toenail from her other dog during play. She said that would never happen. She kept demanding over and over again to know how her dog was scratched and why I didn't know. I kept telling her the same thing. I said I was sorry it happened at our kennel but I did not see it happen. When you have someone yelling at you repeatedly - no matter what you say - you get to a point that you just can't take anymore verbal abuse. Yes, I did get sarcastic. I couldn't listen to that hateful voice any longer! I deserve to be treated like a human being like anyone else. Our contract does state if a dog gets injured or sick while at our kennel, that we are not responsible. Dogs can play very rough. They can rip a toe nail out by jumping on the fence. They can cut their mouths if they chew the fencing. I have paid for dogs to go to the vet because the dogs and people are really nice and I want them to be happy -even though the contract states we are not responsible. If she would have called like a normal person would and acted nice, I would have paid to have the vet check the scratch but not after that mental trauma. Those dogs were very sweet and we enjoyed having them. Most people ask how their dogs were while boarding..She never did ask that. She was just angry because we didn't take care of her when she came in the door or let her go back and disrupt the kennel.

Very clean and homey!

Leaving our dogs here was like having them cared for by friends or family members. These people are very nice and are obvious animal lovers. We visited several kennels in the area and this was the cleanest and homiest one we found. The services are very reasonably priced compared to other kennels in this area.

Great place

This past summer we took our family dog to carriage hill, and just going down the driveway gave us good vibes. There is a huge pond with ducks along the driveway.Its just beautiful. They let us come and look at the kennel before we dropped the dog off. We didn't have to make an appt. like other kennels just to look at the place. The girls that work there are all very nice. Everyone seems to really care about the dogs and knows a lot about them. We asked for our dog to be groomed. When we picked him up he looked like a different dog. If you're looking for a place to take your dog carriage hill is the place to go.
