If you need your vehicle serviced, you are advised to avoid the buffoons at Mike's University Chevron. Here is why.

I have been in town for several decades and rarely used Mike's University Chevron because there were ALWAYS issues. The time before last they missed crimping a wheel weight which I found on the ground next to the tire later minutes after leaving the station for a seasonal tire changeover.

This time I also did a tire changeover to studded tires. I left the vehicle with Mike's University Chevron the night before and picked it up the following evening, only to find the INSIDE of the vehicle solidly frosted up - a real stupid cheechako mistake. Twenty minutes of defrosting later I drove away and ran it for ninety minutes to defrost it. Next after being parked outside overnight it wouldn't start and when I went to jump the battery the hood was frozen in place. After cycling the shifter a couple of time the transmission interlock disengaged and it started.

All of these problems are a result of Mike's University Chevron not taking the time to get the humid air out of the vehicle before they parked it - how hard is it to open all the doors for a minute or two once you are outside so it doesn't frost up? We live in an Arctic climate and I expect professionals to take the simple steps necessary to keep the interior of a car from frosting up when it goes from a wet service bay at 50F to a parking lot at -10F. Clearly this is beyond the skill level or comprehension of Mike's University Chevron.

If Mike's University Chevron can't get the easy stuff done right, image how they can mess up anything that requires actual thought. Consider yourself warned - I certainly won't ever use the buffoons at Mike's University Chevron again!

If I could have Shakespeare write a sonnet for Mike's Chevron I would- I can't say enough for these guys and the company. They're professional, diligent, honest, hard working, and they're very good at fixing stuff. They're kind, friendly, earnest, all around lovely guys. I think the business really cares about their employees, which I admire, and they've always done their best to fit me in whenever I have an emergency breakdown, which seems to me to be all the time.
I could write in detail about all the times they've gone above and beyond the call of duty, but then we'd be looking at a number of pages that would rival War and Peace. Recently though, they really were total knights in shining armor, and managed to turn an utterly horrendous bit of automotive bad luck into a happy ending, and I will FOREVER, be utterly grateful to them for that. And I do mean HORRENDOUS. That should have a bunch of red lines under it. I can't recommend these guys enough, five stars isn't enough, they deserve at least 50- and in the instance of the horrendous automotive bad luck, lots and lots and lots of cake.

Avoid Mike's University Chevron. We used University Chevron for some service but mainly for flat tires and do substantial repairs elsewhere. An ugly story recently happened to me at University Chevron I’d like to share with you.

Last summer I dropped off a flat tire and got it fixed the same day. The problem is that they returned a wrong tire: the tread was the same, but the size was 215 not 205 (that is 1/2 an inch or so too large). This difference is hard to see and, I didn’t notice this switch but my car did and started behaving strangely. I drive mainly around the town and could not relate the problem to the recent tire repair. Then we installed winter tires and forgot about the problem. The problem although let us know this past summer when we put our summer tires back and travelled down to Anchorage. We thought we got some serious problems with the front suspension and took the car to our mechanic. The only thing they could suspect was the struts. It cost me over $750 to get them replaced but it didn’t resolve the problem. Only then did they notice that there was one odd tire in the set and called us. They said that you must not drive it as you are ruining your transmission (in fact may well have reduced its lifetime already). We had the winter tires put back and the problem was gone but we had to find our tire. We checked first if a wrong tire was sold to us in the set of four, but the wrong one was manufactured later then the three others which ruled this possibility out. The only place where it could have happed was at University Chevron last summer as it is the only place where we have all our flats fixed. I asked my husband to deal with it. He went to University Chevron and told general manager Troy the story and asked to find a similar tire. Troy said that he would try. In a week he called us and said that this particular type of tires is no longer available and offered $75 off a set of new tires installed at his shop. We called our dealership seeking their opinion about this offer. They found it completely inadequate and installing a new set of tires would be a minimum that we should ask. They also said that my transmission may well be already damaged which costs thousands to replace. We passed this opinion along to Troy and he said that he had to ask his boss and would call us. He never did. In a week we stopped by University Chevron. The tone of our conversation was different now. His boss apparently instructed Troy to reject any wrong doing on their part. In particular, Troy said that “there is no way the switch could have taken place here”. I knew with a 100% certainty that it happened here but he knew with the same certainty it is nearly impossible to prove. That is why Troy was bold and aggressive (easy tactic to deal with decent people). “I gave you a generous offer but you declined, good bye” he said in our short conversation.

We now have to replace the whole set of tires which could serve us couple more years. Just, a quick stop at University Chevron to get a flat fixed have cost us well over one grant and lots of headache. Think twice if you want to stop at this service too. Costumer service should not be judged by how they greet you at the gate when they want your money but by how they handle problems. We are extremely upset with University Chevron and their unwillingness to find a fair resolution of the problem. Will never ever use them again and will be spreading the word the incident and the people who own and work at University Chevron.

Installation and follow up visit

You can't beat customer service like this. I knew what I was getting and then they were willing to make it even better so I could breath easier in my home. After fully understanding the controls and getting the right information on the filter changes, I don't know how I ever lived comfortably before without this hrv with the added filtration system. Thank you
