I brought a friend's 99 Porsche Boxster in to have the transmission inspected. Reverse gear was locked out and no amount of coaxing would allow me to shift into it. After a day, we were told that the transmission needed to be replaced. The owner decided to go ahead with the factory replacement. Two days later, she gets a phone call from the owner of the business that the engine blew up during the transmission test drive. His response..."These engines from that year tend to do that". No help, except to have a dealer make sure he had installed the transmission correctly. Total cost...$6000 for the transmission, $13,000 for a remanufactured engine (that was done at a dealer). Be forewarned!
