DO NOT USE THIS ADOPTION AGENCY!!! You would be wise to steer clear of this “full service” adoption agency. We are using a national agency for adoption and used Special Children to perform our home study. They contacted us to show our profile on a couple occasions, and “found a match” for us. It was clear that this agency was an inept, “mom and pop” operation from the beginning. Everything was left to us throughout the process.



We had to push Special Children to send a Representative to help facilitate a conversation with the birthparents, and took the birthmother to her doctor appointments since she had no transportation. When the baby was born, for two days we awkwardly and frequently met with the birthmother, father and child with no assistance from Special Children or the hospital social worker. Gale, our “coordinator” spent about 1 hour at the hospital with us and the birthmother, at which time she made the mistake of blurting out our last name in front of her! For the next 28 days, the agency had very little contact with us other than when we called Gale to express concerns over the birthmother’s inability to detach from the child. Gale assured us that the fears were unfounded and that she’d given her several Facebook support groups and the number of a counselor. Roughly forty-eight hours prior to making this child a permanent part of our family, the birthmother contacted Gale to reclaim her child and stated that she’d been working on a way to keep the baby since she’d left the hospital. Gale had no idea of this plan and had told us that she’d not heard from the birthmother, which was “typically a good sign”. We question what screening process and support mechanisms are used for birthmothers that come to this agency. Unfortunately, it cost us great expense and heartache. Please do you and your family a favor, avoid this adoption agency.
