When our AC went out in June 30 2010 we looked for a servicer who was certified for our brand - Trane - and found Crouse. When they came out, they spent a half hour here, only about 5-10 minutes of which was actually spent trouble-shooting here at the house, the rest of which was spent in the van, and charged us for an hour of time. The travel charge was billed as an hour of time from Elkton to Port Deposit (everything was rounded up, and we were told that we were getting a good deal because they should be charging also for essentially the return trip though they were going on to a nearby call). On top of that, they did a temporary fix because they didn't have the replacement part (a capacitor) in the van, and I was charged for the capacitor and told that they would come by one day when they had another call in the area and install it. Today they came to install it (after we called to find out whether it had been done yet or not; now it's Aug 25) and we were billed again for an hour's labor for travel time, for the original capacitor, and for a second capacitor which is needed only because of the additional stress from their temporary fix that stood that way for almost 2 hot summer months. We called to object, as they had assured us that there would be no additional charges the first time, and they did credit us the fee for the first capacitor, which we had previously paid for, but the remainder of the charges stand. Unbelievable!! We will not be using them again. The only good news is that the AC does work. But their business practices are unethical. If we are going to pay for two trips to our home when they don't have the small part in stock, then we might as well not go with a Trane certified group (whom we assumed would have the part readily available) and stick with someone closer to home.
