One of the worst experiences we have had with getting the truck repaired. The transmission (2005 Chevy Silverado) was replaced in 2014 by Higgins after failing. The shop was contacted to have it diagnosed. At the time, they said the trans had to be rebuilt and we agreed to the price, which was roughly $2,200. After completion, there were several returned visits because the trans was not shifting properly. We were given many explanations for the problem, and the problem was eventually resolved. After 3 years and roughly 50k miles, the trans completely failed to shift into third gear. Higgins was notified of this, and we explained the mileage of the trans and that it had a catastrophic failure. We were told it would cost $2k to replace the trans and that's all they could do to remedy the situation. At this point, we did not trust the work was done properly so we took it to a second trans shop in Skokie, IL named Value Transmissions. Upon inspection of the trans here, it was found that all the bushing (with the exception of one) were original and not replaced during the rebuilt when Higgins performed the work. I was also told that a [pressure regulated valve was not upgraded during Higgins' rebuild. When we contacted Higgins to explain what we had learned, Jeanne told us that there "was no way that could have happened." I was told that I had to have overheated the trans or failed to maintain it properly. According to GM, there is no maintenance that needs to be done on [this] trans before 60k miles. Had the trans been overheated, the fluid would have been burnt and there would have been a fault code stored in the computer. Neither one for those conditions existed. The problem with the trans was with the excessive bushing allowing excess play through the gears which tore apart planetary gears. The mental shavings plugged hydrolyic lines inside the trans, which dropped pressure to third gear clutch pack and burnt out the third gear clutch pack. The problem with the trans was 100% Higgins' fault for not rebuilt the trans. Value Transmissions in Skokie repaired the trans and provided a three year, 36k mile warranty. I strongly advise prospective customers to veer from the unprofessional, unreliable and irresponsible business run at Higgins; lest you are a fan of paying for a damaged sub-50k mile trans, etc.

This place is the PITS!

THIS PLACE IS THE PITS! After taking my car there several times, I ended up with more damage to it then when I started. I had to take it to another trans. shop to get it repaired correctly. This place doesn't know what their doing and I definitly would reccommned taking your car somewhere else.

TRANSMISSION WORK

This is the second automobile I have brought to this establishment. Besides the employees being courteous and efficient, the work speaks for itself. I shopped around for other prices and Higgins Transmissions was by far the most affordable and they honor all of their work. The head mechanic Jason even took time to actually go over exactly what he would be doing. You don't get that type of service now a days. I would and will recommend Higgins Transmissions to anyone. Thank you again for the great work!!
