I was a health care provider for many years before I decided to go back to school to become a physician. I really enjoyed taking care of patients, but I wanted to understand more about why we did certain things or why we did things the way that we did when we took care of patients. I'm most passionate about collaborating with my patients on what their treatment options are. One of the major things that I have found is that lots of patients in chronic pain don't know what their options are. They feel they have to live with their pain, or they might have to take a medication every day. But lots of times, we have other options that they were completely unaware of and maybe even their doctors were unaware of. I enjoy going through that process with patients, telling them what their options might be and helping them to understand the advantages and the disadvantages of each of those approaches and then deciding with them the intervention or the pathway that they want to take.
