Not worth the money

Only positive- nice new building. I rented a cessna 172 for the first time from thunderbird this summer. For an aviation company being around for 50+ years they seemed as if it was their first day in business... Their prices were ridiculous for an out of date cessna 172. I got to the airport and signed out the aircraft and asked for an extra headset for my passenger. The headset that was given to us was a 1980s model David Clark that was complete junk. The mic would not even stay in position unless it was held up by the person wearing it. When we got to our plane it had less than half tanks (when I made the reservation i told them it would be 2 150lb people and would need full tanks for our flight.) now we had to wait another 25 minutes to get fuel because the line guys were busy filling 3 other aircraft ahead of ours. The plane was filthy with candy wrappers and empty water bottles under the seats and on the floor. This aircraft had not been washed in weeks, maybe months with dead bugs all over the leading edges and windshield. The autopilot was inop and the GPS database was outdated. The NAV2 VOR was inaccurate. Oil level was at 4 quarts!!! Way to low for a 172. It was clear they do not take care of their rental/training aircraft to keep them appealing to the customer. DO NOT fly their piper aircraft. They are old old old and seem like those engines will quit at any time. Paint is chipping all over the place and hail damage on the airframe. I don't understand how they think that looks good to a customer? I feel bad for the instructors. Management keeps them in the back room and they have to be there 8 hours a day and only get paid for the time hey are instructing which some days there is no instructing because not enough students to go around to all their instructors. I would not recommend renting or getting flight instruction from thunderbird because their aircraft are junk and their prices are ridiculous. They care more about transient aviation business now that they opened their new facility. Disappointed non returning customer....
