I took my autistic daughter in to see Sheryl Marinone to ensure the decisions we were making to give her the best quality of life were truly beneficial and appropriate. Sheryl took the time to ask the questions needed to understand the unique struggles my daughter faces. She made sure my daughter was included by asking for input from her despite her limited verbal ability. In doing so Sheryl showed not only compassion but also an understanding that autistic children understand more than they are able to communicate. They notice and take in their surroundings and are aware that they are the focus of a discussion. As parents we had made decisions on a treatment plan based on other two other professional people's input and diagnoses but neither of those people took the time to ensure they knew what our daughter's struggles truly were. One stated it would be easier to understand my child if she wasn't with me because her behaviors could be distracting. After we went through what my daughter's unique struggles were, Sheryl ensured me the choices we had made were appropriate but the fact that Sheryl was so thorough and took the time to ask about the specific struggles we face made me much more comfortable with the decisions we had made.
