Hobbytyme is a full-line hobby wholesaler. With more than 40, 000 items in stock and more than 300 manufacturers represented, the company's products include plastic model kits, model railroading, rockets, die cast, NASCAR, radio control, wooden ships, crafts, and supplies. Founded in 1980, Hobbytyme has grown steadily, presently maintaining a 25, 000- sq.-ft. warehouse. Joe St. John, founder and president of Hobbytyme, started his career in the hobby industry in 1954 with Mayflower Hobby Distributors. Don Battalino, now Hobbytyme's treasurer, joined St. John at Mayflower in 1961. Secretary Roger Harry joined them at Mayflower in 1970 after 10 years in the retail business. The three have stayed together through Hobbytyme's inception and expansion. Servicing more than 1, 200 hobby and specialty shops across the United States, Hobbytyme prides itself in its friendly service, fast shipping, and fair pricing. Their staff of over 30 employees includes 9 in-house and three traveling sales representatives. Computerized order processing and inventory control assist Hobbytyme in maintaining its highest standards in fill rates and shipping accuracy. Most orders received by 4 p.m. go out the same day. St. John summarizes his business philosophy this way: "The customer comes first. It's that simple". As Hobbytyme has grown, it has been able to offer the product variety and fill rates of a big company, while maintaining the friendly, personalized service of a smaller company.
