Provided by YP.comI was so excited to get some of Vicki's ribs because my husband has told me how good they were and I wanted to try some. So we get there and of course at all good soul food resturant there is a wait, or so I thought. Well we finally get our ribs we ordered 2 whole slabs. Got to the car couldn't wait to tear into them. I smelled a familiar smell when I opened it. I was tomato paste. I said well he did say that, they make the stuff from scratch. But the smell was strong so I turned on more lights in car. The sause was awfully red just like a fresh can of tomato paste heated and stirred. So I said again well I guess this is how theres look. So I tasted it and guess what tomato paste. Damn.

Provided by YP.comWhen I was young my dad would could ribs regularly during summer months. In winter he worked hard and brought ribs home. They became one of my favorite foods. This was in the early eighties. We lived in Detroit then.
As I grew into my preteen years my parents split. We moved to the downriver area with my mother. dad stayed in Detroit. He still cooked in summer.
I found the source of the carry out ribs one night on the way to stay with him for the weekend. He exited the freeway and went to Vicki's.
He was very particular about his ribs as he used to have a barbeque restaraunt of his own. He tried alot of places but Vicki's was always his favorite.
Its been 14 years now since dad has passed and Vicki's is the only place that tastes anything near what he used to cook for us. I have been eating there since I was a child and will continue as long as possible.
Theres alot of rib joints in Detroit, but only one worth the trip from Monroe. I am not sure how long this place has been there, but I have been a customer for at least 21 years.

Provided by YP.comI love their ribs and chicken. We go their about once a week and the drive is about 10 miles but its always worth it. Lydia always cut my ribs so when I get home I can start eating without having to cut up my food before I eat. My food is always excellent. Vickie's your food is great! Keep up the good work. The restaurant is always clean and my orders are always right. I love the food here. In my opinion, you are one of Detroit' finest barbeque carryout restaurants. Must try!
