Engine rebuilding service

James Gannon

They bait you in,with a fair price and a 3 year warranty, then try to charge you 400 percent markup on parts,Dont trust these guys to work on your boat, took out a 4 bolt mercruiser roller motor, installed a 2 bolt car motor which didnt last 2 hours, threw a rod thru the block ,then tried to give me a 2 bolt roller which they would not reinstall, after fighting with them they gave then right motor, but now I need 2 exhaust manifolds,a intake and a flywheel, not to mention the new oil pan had a big hole in it. And my boat is in pieces tried to work with them now for a little over a year, marks last words were good luck, only recourse is to turn them into the state, and take them to court.,they are not bbb recognized, now I know why
Now they are trying to say I had bad exhaust manifolds,me,my brother and rod their mechanic inspected intake and exhaust manifolds, no visible defects were seen,no visable cracks,I told them to have them pressure tested and mark said he didnt do that, but mind you theres a marine shop next door that does, regardless he put the motor in a told me at pickup everything was ok,even gave me warrenty papers, after the new motor blew up,there is visable cracks in the exhaust manifolds. Now to mention, they left the motor cover off and ruined a $800 carburator, and let raccoons defecate in the bottom of the boat, they also let my boat fall off the blocks and sat for 2-3 months, mark calls me and tells me approximately 1000 gal.of water came out of the portals, when they picked it up,now I have mold issues and possibly rotted stringers.

I wanted to thank you for all of your efforts to assist me. There were several other organizations I contacted an you by far were the most professional and responsive. I will without a doubt refer you and your company to my friends and associates. Thank you once again and I look forward to doing business with you in the future. H. Marion

This place is a rip off, they are callous and either inept or uncaring about how your repairs are performed. They tell you what they want you to hear until your vehicle is in their shop and then they act as though they are doing you a favor. They don't use new parts and are only concerned with getting paid and getting you out the door. Very poor customer service and not trustworthy.

Thank you Larry! For the great outstanding hassle free service that Michigan Motor Exchange provided to our company. You did everything that you said you do and more. I admit that I was a little skeptical at first about taking the route of a remanufactured motor over a new vehicle due to the poor service and broken promises that many service providers give today. However Larry you did right by us. Not only did we get 1 reman but we got 2 which saved us a lot of money as opposed to the route of brand new vehicles. They look good they run great and we're saving a lot of cash on insurance. Thanks again, Tony

I just had Michigan Motor Exchange put a remanufactured engine into my 1998 Bravada. So far everything is running great. No one including myself wants to spend money on an older SUV but it turns out that it was cheaper than buying a new or used car with higher miles. So, for a few thousand bucks, I have a SUV that my 16 year old can drive. Looks good and runs great. David was very helpful in the process and straight forward about the costs. He gave me a competitive quote for the engine and after evaluating what else the truck needed...It was my decision....no pressure. It made sense to invest a bit more to address other non-engine related issues. I had my truck back in just over a week. I was referred to Michigan Motor Exchange by another automotive shop. I was very happy with my experience.

The number posted is my number. Please use area code 313 and not 248 for Michigan Motor Exchange. I can't get Superpages to change it. I've been trying for years!

I took my 2004 Durango into Michigan Motor Exchange two months ago and had them replace my engine. My experience with them was very positive from the start. They were very thorough in explaining everything that needed to be done and told me at that time I might need some additional parts after diagnosing the problem. They called me to ok everything and explained that these were preventative maintenance items.

It has been two months now and I have 1200 miles on the engine and everything is running smoothly. I did have a check engine light come on so called them immediately and went back in to have them check it out. It ended up being nothing and they cleared the code for me.

I would highly recommend Michigan Motor Exchange and I would not hesitate to go back to them for future business.

I have no respect for a company, the owners or management who can knowingly provide Garbage to a customer, have the vehicle three times and provide the same garbage. I have no faith in a company that can call cross contamination rust and say they can do no more. I don't trust a company that holds a customer a warranty hostage just because they know they can get away with it. Michigan Motor Exchange thinks they have done me a great service by wanting my vehicle for a fourth time so they can make right what should have been correct from the start, or at least on the second and third visits. They know every trick in the book and know how to get their behinds off the hook at the customers expense. My expense came with the initial costs, the incidental costs, time, inconvenience and much hardship. Why should they care that they took me on this merry go round ride from hell and can save face by saying that they offered to make it right? Nice people! Send a full refund and end it.

GARBAGE ENGINE GARBAGE SERVICE

Michigan Motor Exchange was a joke and a nightmare all rolled into one. If you can get past all the five star reviews, the claims of expert work done by expert mechanics and the boasts about the superiority of their customer satisfaction, take a look at the piece of garbage they provided me for $4,500. Photos are posted on various websites. After having the vehicle three times, the only thing worse than the defective and unsafe engine was the indifference they had with the problems this has caused. I almost need a HAZMAT crew to follow me when I am able to drive this GARBAGE. Michigan Motor Exchange can only be as good as their worst job and the manner they handled the problem. The word GARBAGE keeps coming to mind. I would advise caution before you take the plunge. If it happened to me it can happen to you. Do not gamble unless you are financially well off enough to lose it all. Good luck!

I brought my 97 Chevy Camaro to Michigan Motor Exchange over a year ago, they rebuilt the motor and it has been running great ever since. I have driven to Lansing several times and the car ran well, not to mention I drive to work about 30 miles daily roundtrip. I would recommend their services to anyone in need of a motor. Very helpful and great customer service.

I had my 2000 Escalade motor rebuilt, dropped the vehicle off 2-5-2013 and picked it up 2-11-2013. They went out of there way to give me a ride home. In addition to the rebuild they installed extras such as (belts, hoses, rotor, wires) preparing the car for the next 100,000 miles. I could not be happier for the service I rec'd from everyone involved, from the front guy at the counter to the one that gave me a ride home. Everyone was friendly and professional. If you need work done and want to be comfortable knowing it is taken care of, have it done at Michigan Motor Exchange. Thanks for the excellent service that was provided.

How can Michigan Motor Exchange claim that their work is done to the highest industry standards, that they have master mechanics doing professional work and claim that customer satisfaction is their number one priority...when they provided me with a defective engine? [cross contamination oil/coolant] How can these professionals miss bulletins on my engine? How can they claim that the oil in the coolant is rust? Family, friends, neighbors, pro mechanics and the State of Michigan all recognized oil in the coolant and the defective workmanship. Michigan Motor Exchange had my truck three times and it was contaminated after each visit. After the third visit, they said that the engine ran fine and sounded fine and attributed the poor performance on everything but themselves. What do you want from a 2.8L engine? Would you want these people to further service your vehicle? I wanted a full refund of $4.500 for quite some time now. One of the owners recently contacted me with an offer to fix an engine that has been contaminated for more than a year now. What would be fixable? They want a fourth chance and he tells me of oversights and bad communication. Really? How can you miss cross contamination when all these pros are doing all of this high quality work? How can you deliver an engine with the coolant reservoir empty and tell the customer that it will not hold ANY LIQUID? It was full of oil/coolant sludge when I got it home. Is this customer satisfaction of the highest priority? I have suffered hardships and misery with this defective product and I guess the "good people" at Michigan Motor Exchange don't think this deserves a full refund. I was quoted a price that went up considerably. I was told that parts were good and the engine was running and sounded great. Then I was told that these parts were not good and it would cost more money. Ooops! I was given a timeline and it ended up with 5 1/2 weeks. I am over $9,000 in debt now because of this mess and I want a full refund for the defective work that you provided...and provided...and provided. I would not recommend them for engine repair. If it happened to me...you might be next. Do some checking before you spend big money. Don't get blinded by the five star reviews, some of which seem to be written by staff and/or owners. That A+ rating with the BBB does not guarantee services you might receive. Check with the State of Michigan...and good luck if you make them your choice.

I wanted to say THANKS for fixing my engine so quickly. Even though I brought it in over the Holidays, you were able to turn it around very quickly. Everyone was pleasant and helpful. You were also able to keep the cost down. I would recommend your shop to anyone.

Service was great. I had my first engine a 3.0 caravan installed in Westland when my vehicle had 174,000 miles on it. I have driven it another 500,000 since then and it is still running strong. Now I am having another motor for my son's Winstar installed. I would highly recommend Michigan Motor Exchange to everyone.
