Prior to enrolling at ASA Prep, I'd heard lots of great things about this school and it's curriculum. So I decided to tour the facility. I was pleasantly surprised that in each classroom the children and teachers were actively engaged in learning. 3 year olds were writing uppercase alphabet, and kindergarteners were at taking a math test on adding 2 digit math problems! The overall environment was clean and orderly. I decided to enroll my 9 year old this summer. I was very impressed with her academic progress in preparing for the new school year. She had nightly homework, a class Spelling Bee, and free extracurricular classes such as Drama, health & nutrition, Tap Dance, African Dance, cultural studies, Chess, and even Motown Style ballroom!!! My daughter had an outstanding experience in the Summer Camp Program. Her penmanship, reading, math, and study habits have greatly improved!!! She is eagerly anticipating entering her next grade level. Great Job Asa, see you next summer!!

ASA Higher Learning is an exceptional school! My child has attended since he was 3yrs old and he has learned so much from the curriculum and overall atmosphere of the school. They have a family like setting that allows the children to express themselves but in an orderly manner. I can appreciate the unifroms as well as the organization. The PTO is great and overall it is a wonderful learning experience for ages 2 1/2 yrs to 7yrs old for Pre-K to 1st grade. I wish they could go up to 8thgrade as they are really that good but at least go up to 2nd grade with enough students because the foundation is there they children are learning and are able to grasp and learn so much. My child was reading at 4yrs old fluently and was tieing his shoes at 3 yrs old. I am a huge fan of ASA and would recommend any child to attend who wants to learn, safe environment, organization, communication, family style and working together as staff, parents and students. Be a willing participant to succeed!

I am extremely satisfied with my children's progress at ASA Prep. We enrolled in 2010, when my children were 2 1/2 and 4 years old. I must admit that I feel good when I drop my children off knowing that the owner is on site each day. I absolutely love the academic program here! This school is second to none! I am so amazed at how my children can compete academically with children 2-3 grades levels ahead of them. I absolutely love the "no nonsense" policy regarding homework, and the learning process. I find the staff to be personable, professional, effective teachers. Clearly they have a genuine commitment to making sure each student is challenged, and performs to the best of his/her ability. I feel that my children are not just students there, but they are a part of the ASA family. I highly recommend this program to any parent looking for a great school! I am saddened knowing one day we'll have to leave ASA, for higher grades. Don't miss out on a great school for your kids.

Asa Prep has really put my children ahead in their education. There staff has given my children a very sturdy foundation for their matriculation through school.Sure it may cost a little extra but it is worth it. You will NOT be sorry.

As a former employee of ASA, I would just like to say the cirriculum at ASA is outstanding. The students will learn far more than they will if they attend a standard program. I currently teach for a Charter School and our standards are much lower than those of ASA. I would recommend ASA to any parent who is truly interested in educating their children. ASA will encourage your children to go further than just what is required. If your child can count to twenty ASA will encourage tthem to count to fifty. Why limit our children to State Guidelines, when they have the ability to acheive much more? ASA will do just that. Keep up the good work ASA!

As a former parent, I am very pleased with the teachers and the education my son got from 2008 until June of 2011. I found the Administrators to be very thorough, and diligent in making that sure we (the parents) were always informed of school business. During my initial tour of the school I was told exactly what I could expect of the school and what they expected of our family. I got more than what I expected, and when my son was tested for his new school he tested 3 reading levels, and 2 math levels ahead of grade level. Thanks to ASA my son understands that only his best is acceptable. He looks forward to homework, and loves to read about new things. I absolutely love the "no nonsense" Approach) of the school, it's all about your child 's education, Yes, there could be a better playground (my child did not play in the alley), and room for other improvements, but the curriculum is outstanding. I highly recommend this school for families looking for a real "SCHOOL".

As parent that has to students that attends ASA I'm very pleased with their learning environment. My children are performing at a higher level than children in the age group in science, reading and math. ASA is a organized, fun loving school that parents can appreciate. The owner/administrator is always willling to talk to the parents about their childrens education. She is kind, understanding and very knowledgeable about what every student needs to help them reach their acdemic goals. ASA is a fine institution. I would ask that you visit this great hidden gem that Detroit has to offer. Your children will learn and grow and you will be very pleased.

I have to say that my son went to ASA Prep since he was 3 yrs old -6 yrs old. While he was there he excelled tremendously. Every school has its faults, but I promise you that the good outweighs the bad. I took him out in the first grade just because I felt that he needed to experience some new things. They had to grade skip my son in his new school because he was too far ahead of the average 1st grade curriculum. My son is reading on a 3-4th grade level and I know its because of the fundamentals this school has taught him. One thing cant be compared and its the Morals, discipline, pride and Integrity that this school teaches.

Love the program & the teachers. However, the school could use a playground, more after school activties, field trips, science activities, computer lab & a prayer group is very much so needed. There should be more appreciation for the parents who help keep the school together. If it wasnt for the parents there would be no ASA. There is a teachers appreciation week but no appreciation week for the parents.

The program is great! The teachers really put their all in teaching the children there. But, to much extra expensive stuff for example; hot lunches is $60.00 monthly, dance & karate are both & 50.00 monthly and Spanish & French is $75.00 every six weeks. Thats to much when you have to pay $150.00 every week in tuition and alot of fundraisers in which you do not know where the money from the fundraiser is going. I do not recommend this program because its to expensive.

I am very pleased with the school because the teachers are wonderful. But, the administration is upsetting. They can be rude and disrespectful. One particular person feels that she owns the school and talk to the parents any kind of way. My experience with her have not been all that great but, my son needs his education. When I tried to speak with the owner about this person she just shoveled it under the rug and took up for her. This is my son last year at ASA. The school does not have a good summer program & no good activities and most of all no playground. They play in the alley in the back of the bldg. Sometimes I feel its all about the money and how the parents feel. The hot lunch is very expensive, after school programs are enormousIy high in cost.

I am surprisingly pleased with the progress of my child at ASA Higher Learning Prep School. There are several schools and programs in the city which claim to offer a unique curriculum. However, the "proof is in the pudding" at ASA Prep School. The curriculum is truly unique because my child is mastering 1st grade skills in PreKindergarten! He will be reading well by the time he finishes this school year. I am especially pleased with the "school" like atmosphere, even though the students are as young as 2 1/2 years old. I make it a point to visit the school (unannounced), on a regular basis. Each day that I have visited, the students are always engaged in stimulating educational activities. As a parent I appreciate that my child can demonstrate a clear understanding of what he is learning, especially when we do homework. I highly recommend this school to families looking for a truly unique school where their children will be challenged to expected to excel.

My daughter is a 2nd year student at ASA Prep School. We are so pleased with the accelerated program, the school and it's staff. My child, at 3 1/2 years of age has mastered concepts and skills comparable to that of a child 5 - 6 years old. At ASA, my child is challenged beyond what is is expected of a child her age. She can recognize and write all of the alphabet, write her full name, recognize and write numbers 0 thru 50, knows all of the letter sounds, recognizes color words, and number words, etc. She loves the school, and looks forward to doing homework each night. As an educator myself, I would highly recommend the ASA Prep school to any parent looking for a school with a strong curriculum, and high expectations. I only hope that in the future ASA will be able to offer a grade school to continue beyond 1st grade. I
