This Veterinary Clinic is a treasure, Denver!

We came all the way up from Pueblo to Animal Health Care Specialists as they were recommended by the group from whom we adopted our greyhound. Our dog didn't have an easy problem to diagnose & we had already been to two other hospitals. This hospital isn't fancy, but they sure didn't skimp on diagnostic equipment or expertise on dealing with difficult problems.Dr. Schulman, Dr. Sayer, & Dr. Matthieson were impressive. I felt that they were quite thorough in trying to find out what our dog's problem was and now I feel more 'armed' to give her the best life she can have. They showed great concern, compassion, and skill in helping our dog and were honest in their assessment every step of the way. They place the animal's health & well-being over everything. On top of that, they also do great work for so many non-profit animal welfare groups!Truly, I wish they were closer to Pueblo so we could make them our primary vet. Denver....I hope you appreciate what you have here!

Took good care of my dogs

I am very thankful to AHCS who provide good quality care at a much lower price than other vets in the area. I have had 2 dogs who has had surgeries done here. The cost at other vets were easily 2 to 3 times higher. The low cost allowed me to make an easy decision to have the surgey done. One of the vets is very unfriendly and and has a horrible bedside manner, but my animals are taken care of and that is why i come here. I reccomend them, just don't expect anything fancy or any friendly conversation. Well worth it for a second opinion and surgical consult.

Scary, dirty, you get what you pay for

The tech draged my poor senior dog up onto the scale, as I was leaning down to pick him up to put him on the scale. The girls at the front desk were the most unfriendliest people ever....and what concerns me the most is this man used to have his trailor office on the property of Washington Street Kennels...the notorious puppy mill breeder. What kind of compasionate vet would associate with a POS like the guy that owned a puppy mill?

Thye Refuse to help you if your animal was seen by Maxfun

This Place will not see your pet if your pet was seen at Maxfund. The DR has an issue with them and even though I have the money they will not see my Dog and they were even highly recomended by the DR at maxfund for the backsuregery my dog needs.

Best Vet I have ever seen!

Dr. Schulman works so many hours and saves so many animals and too much of the time at his own expense and time. He is not all about money but he is all about animals! the negative reviews could not be further from the truth. Yes it gets hectic there sometimes but nobody cares about animals more than he does...I couldn't stand by and let people slander him and his work

ANIMAL KILLER!

Do yourself a favor and save your pet by not coming here!I recently adopted a dog that was supposedly seen by this vet a few times before. When I woke up one morning to my dogs unusual behavior, I brought him in for an emergency visit. The ladies at the front desk and the vet himself didn't even recognize him or his name. Not really a big deal but what happens next is what worried me. The vet techs were not very gentle with my dog and were scaring him. When Dr. Schulman asked me what was wrong with him, he cut me off when I wasn't even half way done explaining his unusual behavior before he "diagnosed" him with a virus infection. He gave him some antibiotics and told me to call in the morning with an update if he starts to vomit or cough. The next day, I noticed my dog had started coughing and gagging so I called and they suggested I bring him back in. BY only taking his temperature and not even looking at him, Dr. Schulman diagnosed him once again but this time with kennel cough.

Great results

I recently took my 11 year old rotty to this vet for a teeth cleaning, because the price was well below other vets. When I picked him up I was very upset to find out that they had pulled 16 of his teeth, without calling me. I wrote a bad review on some site because i was very upset. However, In all fairness I have to say that my dog is now doing much better, He eats better, smells better, and has more energy. He clearly is feeling much better, and although I still think a call to me would have been in order, they did what needed to be done.

You get what you pay for...

I do have a regular vet that I've used in the past but thought I'd give this one a try. I was very disappointed. I'll never return to this vet office again. The technician was clueless and unprofessional. I couldn't care less about the doctor's bedside manner however, something beyond a grunt would have been nice to hear. I happily went back to my regular vet.

Some place where EVERYONE can get the care for their pets without sacrificing! Even the middleclass

We can now choose to take our pets to the vet for the preventative care they need! We are middle class and could never qualify for any discount or assistance programs at any other vet but Dr. Schulman does not discriminate and understands that EVERYONE needs to make choices when paying the bills. I have always felt the vet industry has become a luxury with fancy vet clinics and outrageous prices. All pets need the care they deserve and not only when there's an emergency or when owners can afford it! Our lab needed to have her eye removed because of a tumor. $1400 quote from another clinic with a fancy waiting room made it seem out of reach, especially right before the holidays. AHCS...$400!!! We donated to their Tails of Woe program to show our appreciation and to help others. Thank you AHCS!!!!

Finally a GOOD CHEAP vet!

I am SO HAPPY that this clinic exists! We have two male pitbulls, both are rescues, and both have some SERIOUS issues due to mistreatment by their previous owners. The staff here were all very understanding and receptive to the boys, and we were amazed at how well they were treated. It is really important to us that our dogs have a good connection with their vet, and we got just what we wanted here. They weren't just another appointment. They got hugs and kisses and the techs all wanted to hear about them and their story.Dr. Schulman was very gentle...He is obviously a New Yorker, so he can seem standoffish, but we liked that he was so straightforward with his practice. He didn't try to upsell any of his products, and he was very thorough. He even taught us how to brush the dogs' teeth! The prices in this hospital are amazing. My previous vet charged over $200 EACH to neuter the dogs. I really wish we had found this place earlier. He even offers things like heartworm pills and vitamin

Best care possible for the lowest price!!

I am extremely impressed! At Animal Healthcare Specialists, they use the same medications, lab equipment, surgical procedures, etc as other vet hospitals for 1/3 the price. Dr. Schulman is extremely knowledgeble and treats your pets as if they were his own. He gave our dog a very thorough exam and he even brushed his teeth (I've never even heared of a vet doing this!) All of the other employees also seemed extremely competent and were very friendly and accomodating. Our dog ruptured his ACL and we were quoted at one vet hospital $1400 for a regular vet (not even a surgeon!) to surgically repair it. At animal healthcare specialists, we were quoted $900 for a board certified orthopedic surgeon with over 20 years of experience to repair it. All of the items included in the surgery are the same (medications, IV fluids, etc.) I will now recommend this place to all my family and friends and will hopefully never be overcharged again for the best possible care for my pets!

stay away

not only did i have one dog die during surgery with no explanation but during their so called emergency hours i had another dog bloat and the recept. never answered, never call back and i took her somewhere else where she was euthanized. the next day they called me back apologizing because the staff was in the basement filing and didn't hear the phone. on top of that, i was fired as a client because i cancelled an appointment the night before and the doctor was pissed. i cancelled the appointment because of an emergency the night before where a rescue dog had to be rushed to another ER and passed away. they are insensitive and cold. i know of 2 non profit dog rescues that were also fired as clients after years of a great relationship. one took a dog to a specialist and when the great oz at AHS found out, his ego couldn't take it and she was fired too and sent immediately to collections after having never been late on a payment. keep your distance or you'll be pulling a knife out o

Reasonably Priced Caring Vet

Reading the reviews, most of these complaints seem to be from people who feel they weren't treated well. This vet is there to treat the animals, not the people! If you want fluff and nice facilities and for the vet to pay more attention to you than your dog, and you want to pay dearly for that, go to another vet. If you want someone who cares for the animal more than anything else, go here. He may seem to have what Coloradans call "back-east attitude", but both my dog and I are glad he takes care of what's important.

Black Labador Retriever - Mongo

I loved this place. Not a fancy building inside or out BUT who cares...they care for animals not humans. He examined my labador retriever dog and told me everything I need to do to keep him healthy. Gave him 2 shots which were required for me boarding him around Thanksgiving - my dog never even noticed he gave him the shots. The doctor was polite and caring and I walked out not being broke. I am definitely coming back again and will highly recommend this place to others.

NOT GOOD CARE

My friend highly recommended this vet to me saying how great the staff was, their costs were cheaper, etc. Much to my dismay - I found it to be the opposite. Upon arrival - I was told to sit in the waiting room - where I sat for 20 minutes with no further contact - until one of the receptionists say to the other "Who's that in the waiting room?" The vet tech finally comes and takes us back for the exam, and when Dr. Schulman enters the room - the tech promptly HOLDS MY DOG DOWN! I can see that my dog is aggitated. I tried to move in to soothe him, and was told that I needed to step back. Then they give the shot for his vaccines, and instead of pinching the skin - they just stick it in his hind quarters - where he STILL has a bump - and our appt. was 3 weeks ago! They have to take blood - and my dog is crying and yelping in pain through this procedure. Needless to say - I am NOT happy, will not be returning to this office, and will NOT be recommending anyone I know to go there.

What a wonderful experience!

I adopted a 11 week old Norwich Terrier and she has been seeing Dr. Schulman before I adopted her. I was worried going for her second series of shots due to what I have read in the reviews. I just wanted to say that we had a wonderful experience, very friendly, knowledgable staff that answered all my questions. The doctor was friendly and very helpful with my questions. I would recommed this clinic to anyone with pets!

Wouldnt recommend this vet! AT ALL

Im new to Denver and my dog was having multiple problems, I was in search for a vet, reasonably priced and compassionate to help with my worries! As the comment stated before me, I went to them, really needing questions answered and help with my dog. The Doctor, never introduced himself, nor really gave any friendly responses to my questions, nor could he get back to me after I left and called multiple times with questions. He was cold and gave me a pretentious attitude, that he knew all and I knew nothing, yet he didnt even really ask me anything about my dog!!! The only thing they did for me was figure out that my dog has a thyroid issue, and any vet could have done that through bloodwork! I would not recommend this vet, Dr. Schulman is unfriendly and disregards YOUR needs for you pet, he goes with his extensive knowledge from Cornel, big freakin deal....I wouldnt even give them ONE STAR, but you have to at least give one....ZERO STARS!!!

DEVASTATING

My white cat MARKIE was taken to Dr. Schulman for bladder blockage. My initial meeting with Dr. Schulman left me with a cold insensitive feeling. He never addressed me by name, and cut me off in mid-sentence when I was answering a direct question. I felt completely pushed out of efficient communication about care for my cat MARKIE.Dr. Schulman boasted of his success in clearing blockages as if it were baseball statistics. I returned later, DEVATASTED, to find my dear kitty dead! It was only then he told me that he had never before treated a kitty with a heart murmur under anesthesia!I also have since learned that other measures could have been taken (confirmed by a different veterinary office, and recent internet research) prior to an assumption of an immediate anesthesia procedure.I AM DEVASTATED!
