In November, 1964, a recently widowed, uneducated Greek immigrant woman came to Cape Cod in pursuit of a small business in which she could engage and keep her family together. After looking at many different properties, she fell in love with an old lodging house situated on Nantucket Sound. Family and friends were astounded that this little Greek woman was so unequivocally definite about her decision to purchase and operate a lodging house; however, she was determined to keep her family together and believed in her heart she could do this, and did. This woman was our mother - Ms. Efthalia N. Kossifos; and on this day, a Greek family tradition of hospitality and service dating back to mid-1700's was reborn here on the shores of Cape Cod, and is celebrating its' 40th year. Today, the tradition of service continues. We, Helen N. Kossifos and Dino N. Kossifos, are proud heirs of 'By The Sea' Guests. Let me very quickly tell you a little about ourselves. We are one of the few Bed & Breakfast Inns on Cape Cod that have their very own private beach. Most of our rooms are oceanfront or have a view of the ocean. All our rates include a full breakfast, which is served on our glass / screen enclosed veranda overlooking Nantucket Sound. After breakfast, a walk awaits you just a few steps down onto our sandy, private beach. Sincerely, Your hosts, The Kossifos Family

I read a negative review abou...

I read a negative review about then, very similar experience to ours and now I understand how they felt! I had planned my boyfriend's birthday trip to By the Sea Guest and was extremely disappointed. At the arrival they seemed friendly but in the morning when we were getting some coffee at the breakfast room, beside not being greeted good morning, or a smile or anything. We were kick out of the room because we were only allowed get our coffee but not allowed there to enjoy the view until 8AM. When we came back I felt like I was at a school cafeteria ( although food was beautiful). We were only allowed to sit at certain places at the table, and everything was controlled including the food being served. The other guest, my boyfriend and I at the table felt that we were being served by the Soup Nazi and tried to make light out of it. It was a rainy day, so we we were at our room most of the day when someone ( the food nazi again )knocked at our door and told us we had to live the room because the maid had to clean the room and go home. We told her we did not need the room to be cleaned but she insisted it was the policy and we had to live our room now! Wow, we are paying for the room and she can't stay in it? I also mention to her about the bed sagging on the right side and she told me I had to talk to the owner ( she did not even attend to look at it). So I went back to the office to tell them about it. When I mention it to Mary (office manager who greeted us the day before) she attacked me by accusing my boyfriend of being rude to her at the arrival ( he was trying to be funny, she had no sense of humor there). I was shocked! Then I I felt even more uncomfortable with the situation when the Soup Nazi and the "Owner" came in to the office and debated the bed being damaged or not without even looking at it. After that I felt so uncomfortable being there that we end up living Cape Cod a day earlier. I have never being treated that way and it ruined our weekend. Beautiful setting but the worse customer treatment ever! If you decide to go there anyway I wish you good luck and remember stay on your tippy toes or "No soup for you!!!".

Beauty and the Beach

My husband and I had a wonderful, relaxing few days at By the Sea Guests Inn. The rooms are lovely and comfortable and the staff friendly, helpful and courteous. We watched the waves come in every morning while we ate delicious breakfasts on the screened porch that fronts directly on the beach. Snacks, breads cookies and delicious flavored teas and coffee were available throughout the day at our leisure. The Inn's location is also within walking distance of quaint little shops and a few restaurants. We will definitely return to By the Sea Inn next summer.
