My husband and I are having our first baby in April and we were just informed today, at our 29 week appointment, that ALL 6 of the doctors in this group will be out of town on a retreat during the week of our due date. So, not only are there 6 different doctors that we have been seeing throughout our pregnancy (still have only seen most of them once), but now they tell us that none of those doctors will even be in town when we are due and that some doctor we have never even met will be on call for them. We were having a hard enough time with the idea of only getting to meet a doctor a few times before they deliver our baby, but now they expect us to be ok with some doctor we haven't even heard of?! The only solution they gave us was to be induced early, before they leave for their retreat (so, have my baby around their schedules?!). This solution was given right after just having a conversation with the doctor about how we would like to give birth naturally, so clearly her solution did not take our preferences into consideration. This is very irresponsible of the entire group and, in my opinion, shows that they do not value their patient/doctor relationships. We are now looking for another OB that is part of a smaller group and who values building a rapport with their patients.
