Excellent Physician

I love Dr. McKinney. I have been a patient for over 15 years. She is one in a million.

Excellent surgeon, uninterested post-surgery doctor

Dr. Champine is considered the specialist's specialist, thus hard to get an appointment. I had surgery by him years ago when he was just an orthopedic specialist seeing any patients. He was very good and very caring. Then, recently, my orthopedic specialist referred him to me, when he could not do any more for my arthritic knee. I chose to get a knee replacement, rather than trying a series of injections in the knee. He was excellent. He does special little things that other doctors do not to keep you pain-free during initial recovery. I had surgery in the morning, was walking that afternoon.

After surgery I never saw the doctor again, only his assistant. I was walking and moving better and better the first few months, but at about the fifth month I began to have pain in the knee that would cause aching in the thigh and shin as well. It was also getting very stiff, especially at the back of the knee, even though I exercise regularly. The assistant would only say that the xrays showed everything in perfect position, so there couldn't be anything wrong and would give nothing for it. I asked for an appointment with Dr. Champine, personally, because something was not perfect. Dr. Champine said basically the same thing, if the xray was good, there couldn't be any pain caused by the knee, if must be caused from my back. However, there was no pain in my back at that time, though I have had a history of back problems. The back doctor said the back would not generate pain directly to the knee bi-passing everything in-between. Dr. Champine offered no pain relief suggestions, either medications or therapy, though he did suggest I buy a bicycle (I doubt that is the be all, end all remedy for pain and stiffness and costs a lot). He then charged me for this non-advice and treatment and reminded me to make an appointment of my 1-year checkup. What will he do for me at 1-year, if he would do nothing at 6 months after surgery. I will not be going back. If you want a good surgeon go to him, but if you want any after-care find someone else.
