Caution you could get a puppy with dysplasia

Our two puppies have BILATERAL ELBOW DYSPLASIA and one also has BILATERAL HIP DYSPLASIA

WE CANNOT RECOMMEND THINSCHMIDT GERMAN SHEPHERDS due to our experience with our puppies' health problems.

Last year we obtained two puppies from different litters GONZO & SAYLA (May 2012) and GONZO & ANNA (Sept 2012). BOTH were diagnosed with ELBOW DYSPLASIA and ONE also with HIP DYSPLASIA. Once you have a dog in the family you aren't going to return it to the breeder. Our puppies' conditions were identified and diagnosed by extremely well-qualified Board Certified Veterinary Surgeon and independent Board Certified Radiologist before one year of age. So far we have paid out many thousands in veterinary bills related to the elbow dysplasia diagnoses and necessary surgery, and then the youngest puppy was ALSO DIAGNOSED WITH HIP DYSPLASIA.

I wish I had realized that German SV rating of FAST NORMAL is BORDERLINE in the american standards rating of the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals OFA. I would NEVER select parents that have that rating ever again. The ratings can be found on the website: http://www.offa.org/hd_g. I've learned to check the ratings of the breeding males and females you are considering from any breeder.

Our puppies face a lifetime of arthritis. It is a very sad experience. We love our puppies but wish they were healthy.

IF YOU ARE ANOTHER THINSCHMIDT PUPPY OWNER WITH DYSPLASIA PLEASE E-MAIL ME AT kasmha@aol.com I AM IN CONTACT WITH THREE OTHER OWNERS. HOW MANY ARE WE AND HOW LONG HAS THIS BEEN GOING ON?

We purchased a male German Shepherd (GSD) from Thinschmidt German Shepherds Breeding (TGSB), from a Gonzo and Ana litter. Our GSD is loved greatly but has ELBOW DYSPLASIA (Fragmented Coronoid Medial Process), and HIP DYSPLASIA. Another dog in our pup's litter was also diagnosed with hip & elbow DYSPLASIA. TGSB told my husband that he didn't have integrity and that they were questioning the integrity of our entire family. This shows a lack of professionalism and utter ignorance. They also told my husband that he thought he was "above" others due to his job in the military. We brought up the military once, only to state the fact that we could not bring our dog into them due to now living on the other side of the country. TGSB is friendly at first but are highly unprofessional, unethical and offensive.

happy customer

3yrs ago I took my great Dane for in board training. After 4 weeks I picked up Dulce she was perfectly trained. I didn't even need to go to group class. I also had her boarded several times. She loves going there. When my German shepherd of 15yrs passed away, I wanted a new puppy. I put a deposit so I could pick out a puppy from a specific litter. They had no puppies available from that litter, so they offered me one from another litter, because they thought I wanted a puppy right away. At no time did they try to persuade me or force me to take a puppy from another litter. I told them that I would wait for the next breeding and they were fine with that. Even though they do their best to breed healthy sound puppies, there's always a small chance that you get a puppy with a genetic defect. That is why they give you a guarantee for that. They don't purposely breed unhealthy pups. If you plan on buying a puppy read the contract first. If you don't like the terms then don't sign the contract. The contract is a fair one. These people have spent most of there lives raising pups. They know what they're doing. Bravo is my 5th shepherd. At 11wks with only 3wks of training he performed his training at the orange county pet expo in front of a big crowd of people. He did everything perfectly. I have followed all the advice they gave me and is an excellent puppy. I get nothing but complements where ever I go. He is 7 months now and perfectly healthy. I go out of town at least once a month and they take good care of him. They have big play yards and he gets plenty of fresh air and sunshine. Better than at the pet hotels where you have to pay extra just so he can get out of his cage and go for a short walk. I never worry when I leave. Diana, Doug, Bobby and Michele are very good people and my dogs love them. I always listen to my dogs. Thank you for taking such loving care of my dogs!

Thinschmidt German shepherds

*buyers beware* I went out to their business to inquire about purchasing a puppy. I knew which parents I wanted for offspring but they kept trying to push another pair of parents on me for offspring. I told them I had to sleep it over and they seemed pretty annoyed I didn't make up my mind and put down the $500 deposit. I called back two days later to put my name down for the parents with the offspring I wanted and ask to speak to the girl that I met with. Instead, the lady on the receiving end, snapped at me and said that the girl was not there. She hurried the conversation and then literally hung up on me! There I was preparing to spend 3k+ on a puppy and training. The customer service here is very rude and they try to push certain puppies they wanted to get rid of to you first.

I, thankfully, went to another breeder instead and got the most amazing puppy!!!!

BEWARE STAY FAR AWAY!!

BEWARE!! I purchased a puppy from this breeder and I had to return my puppy because she had a severe heart defect. Be cautious about their paperwork and their recommendations. They state in the contract that you only have a few days to return the puppy but they also tell you and state in the take-home paperwork that they recommend that you DO NOT take your puppy to the vet because they may get sick from other sick dogs at the vet. Fortunately, I ignored their recommendations and took my puppy to my vet to get a check up. After her exam my vet told us that she had a severe heart defect that would require a specialist and possibly heart surgery. Her heart was struggling to pump enough blood through her body. If I would have followed their recommendations, I would have not been aware of her heart problem and she would have not have gotten the medical attention that she needed. Puppies don't just wake up with a heart problem, they are born with them due to POOR breeding. The whole time we were choosing a puppy they NEVER mentioned that she was sick. How unethical can you get?

They did allow us to return our puppy and offered to refund the full amount we paid HOWEVER it took them almost 2 MONTHS to refund the money. You can get your tax refund faster than you can receive a refund from this business. I had to contact them nearly everyday to follow up on the refund and they were extremely rude when I inquired about it. I had to threaten legal action for them to finally process my return.

DO NOT waste your time and your hard earned money on this breeder. The puppies are very expensive, you are looking at $3,000 per puppy, and our family went through a lot of heart ache trying to care for a sick puppy and then having to return her. They would not allow us to ask or check up on her. We suspect that they just sold her to another unsuspecting buyer.

This breeder has the best looking GSD puppies and dogs around. They can be a bit expensive, but you get what you pay for. Worth every dime. They also have puppy classes. Our pup is amazing, smart, calm, and confident. If you are looking for a GSD this is the place to go. I drive up from San Diego for the training classes on Saturdays.

*1 year guarantee not being upheld

*training and behavioral problems not corrected

*Hidden fees they don't tell you about but it's in your contract (ours were over $1,000.00)

DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE!!!
