Took my 11 year old son's bike...

Took my 11 year old son's bike to Nad's because he broke a spoke. Common problem, right? Simple repair, right? NIGHTMARE...!

Bmx 20" bike, black wheels, broken spoke. Called, asked how much to replace a spoke and true the wheel. Was quoted $25.00. Brought in the bike, was then told by Nad the spoke could not be replaced, that a new wheel was needed. Ok, fine. Was quoted $40.00 to replace the wheel, mount the tube and tire, and make the bike all nice. Ok, fine, and thanks...! Hey, wait... Was Nad trying to make a buck by saying the wheel needed to be replaced, instead of simply replacing the spoke? Shocking!

About a month later, I called to see what was going on, since no one had called me. Was told by some random person they could not find a wheel. Seriously? Said ok, would wait. About two weeks later, called again and spoke to Nad. He said he could not find a replacement black 20" wheel. I told him I didn't think they were that rare of an item, and he should have been able to get one in the past 6 weeks. He said they were not available.

I hung up and went online. Found numerous black 20" wheels available from Amazon, Ebay, Universal Cycles, Bike Part USA, and Bike Island to name a few. Want to know the funny thing? All wheels I found that were in stock and avaliable for immediate shipping all cost $40.00 and over. So, Nad under-bid this repair. He wasn't going to make any money fixing the bike. Instead of fixing it at a loss to make the customer happy, he just decided not to do the repair. I wish he would have called me and told me he couldn't do the job for the agreed upon price. I would then have the option of agreeing to a higher price, or picking up my bike. He did not do either. Never called me. Wasn't honest about it. Played like he was the victim of a nation-wide wheel shortage. Shouldn't a bike shop be able to order a common size wheel? If this was some rare part from an Italian bicycle made in 1927, I could understand it.

Picked up my still broken bike today, about two months after I dropped it off. I asked Nad what the problem was. He shrugged his shoulders and said he could not get a replacement wheel. I told him I found several online, and his reply? "We dont order online." I told him he should start. He tried to explain how a simple wheel was not available and he was not to blame. I called shenanigans to his face. What a joke.

Took my bike to Brad's Bike Shop on Temescal Valley. I told my son that if they said the wheel needs to be replaced, and that the wheel would be really hard to get, I would drive back down to Nad's and apologize to him in person.

At Brad's, they said they would simply replace the spoke, and true the wheel. Would cost $25.00, and be ready in 2 days. 2 DAYS..!

Totally wish I went to Brad's in the first place. Very helpful employees, bike shop is large and like a bike shop should be, not like the small, hoarder-looking small shop that held my son's bike hostage for 2 months. Nad's just plain sucked big-time on this simple bike repair for my son. I would not go back to Nad's, even if they were handing out free $20.00 bills. Wish I could give it zero stars.
