I called high performance after recently moving into a house with a lawn (front & back) that had not been cared for. I started the clean up myself but when I found dead animal skulls and various other dead things back there, I thought it best to call in the professionals for a general yard cleanup. A quick yelow pages searched yielded many results which I called but no one else seemed to want the job. Diego didn't seem to mind and anyone who's ready and willing to work deserves my business, IMO.
I didn't have to work around his schedule he worked around mine and arrived on time. Unfortunately the largest portion of the mess was in the back yard which does not have an easily accessible door, so I had Diego & his brother come in through the house. They were very respectful of my space and were concerned with keeping the floors cleaned despite the house being in total disarray from the recent move.

What sold me... my herding dog is a strange neurotic pup. She does not like strangers. Period. So I crated her in preparation of the visit but that never stops her from very loudly vocalizing her distrust of strangers in her home. Much to my surprise... not a peep from the fickle dog. Diego walked over to her crate, placed his hand near it and I almost stopped him because again, she doesn't like strangers. Still not a peep, I had one very calm dog in her crate. From that point on, Mateo was golden in my book and we hadn't even discussed the nitty gritty of the job at hand. If my dog senses good peeps, good peeps it is.

The job was a dirty one. Imagine years of zero TLC. He quoted me what I considered a fair amount, given the yuck factor and sheer amount of material to haul. He also immediately pointed out the trees that should be removed, the types of trees they were and why they were dangerous to have near the house - he knows his stuff! (All of this I knew from a previous inspector so I knew he wasn't trying to squeeze me out of a few more bucks you skeptics).
We agreed on the yard clean up and I expected to be scheduled much later... nope, not Mateo and his crew. They assured me it would be cleaned up the very next day. I explained I had to work and would not be able to take off. No worries, we'll come clean up and you can leave payment or something. Diego followed up with me midday from the site for a quick update. Keep in mind, I haven't seen any of the work at this point. To be quite honest, I wasn't expecting much. It was a labor intensive job and it was just plain nasty. I arrived home after a long day of work and it was obvious his crew was even harder at work. I ran around looking at my yard in utter amazement, I could finally see the potential. I could walk around in it without worry of something dead or alive lurking! I was so floored I sent him a text message expressing the WOW factor. They even cleaned up my neighbor's piece in between the houses! My expectations were greatly exceeded and I will not hesitate to have him out again to take care of those trees he mentioned. Respectful guys, hard working, knowledgeable, friendly and reasonable price

- what more do you want?

I am very pleased with Diego's work and have already recommended him to my friends. My yard looks great, and they even did some extra clean up that I didn't ask for!

I called Diego out to give me an estimate to prune a tree back from my roof and rake up the massive amount of leaves in my yard. When he came out to have a look, I also had him bid on a lot of other tasks that I had been meaning to do, but just hadn't gotten around to: trim hedges, prune crepe myrtles, , remove box shrubs, remove a rotting mimosa tree, cut back an out of control plant, etc...

He came in about $200 less than a quote I received later. The guy giving the higher priced quote said I was getting a great deal, and that I should jump on it.

Mateo agreed to come out the next day at 8am. However, it rained that morning and I received a call at 7:30 saying he'd like to wait for the leaves to dry up a bit before starting and that he'd be there by noon. He showed up around 2pm, with his crew and got to work.

By dusk he was finished, and everything looked great. They even weeded around my hedges, and removed the weeds from the flower planters surrounding my mail box.

Very excellent work and a great price! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was that he showed up a couple of hours late without a phone call. But I am willing to let that slide for the price and quality of the work.

I hired after my last lawn crew never showed up. They were professional and knowledgeable. I had a great experience and am currently using them, i have been using High Performance for the past 7 months and would recommend their services.

This is actually the first time I ventured to use Yellow pages as a reference tool, since I disagree with 99.8% of what Austinites typically like (Sushi, Yoga, Hemp sandals, Skinny jeans, etc).

WOW, Diego and the boys are amazing!!! I spoke to him on a Thursday morning, like other reviews indicated, He arrived slightly ahead of schedule and wasted no time in assessing the needs we had discussed to where a quote was ready when I arrived a few minutes later. The price was good, not the lowest but certainly not the highest. The selling point was he assured me he would finish the job in one day where all others quoted two days, maybe even two and a half.

We set up to have the job done the following week.

The next day he called to inform me he had a cancellation and could come out the following morning to get the job down . Perfect. We had plans for Saturday morning already in place so they would not be disturbing any attempt to sleep in, for us at least.

The crew arrived while my fiance and I were running errands (as alerted by text message) so we made our way back home soon after to see how things were going (with a 24 pack of water and a bag of ice to keep the guys hydrated). Now I am very particular about cleanliness and organization. So was the crew. No tools strewn out all over the place, no blaring stereo systems, no idle chit chat, these guys were working. Oh, and they already had an ample water supply. D'oh!

I was amazed at how quickly the overgrown tree was cut down, especially since the branches engulfed multiple runs of phone/data lines. The bane of my existence was gone. I finally found one thing I dislike more than hipsters, Possumhaw.

Lunch time: One guy from the crew made a run to a local taqueria, while the others cleaned up the back yard. Upon the arrival of the food I offered the guys some habanero and Ghost Chili sauce assuring them it was much better than what the taqueira offered. To test this the let me sample the "hot sauce", meh, it had a little kick. I was asked not to bring out my sauce since no one on the crew could handle the sauce I just swigged down. Boooooo

Next on the agenda was some sort of pine tree that was easily 5 feet taller than our two story house. Luis ( I am almost certain this is Diego's brother) scurried up that tree like the ground was on fire and cut the tree up with surgical precision. Seeing him attack that tree was more awe inspiring than watching a Cirque du Soleil show in Vegas. Yeah, I said it.

Round three, some huge deadish tree. Again, it was down before I could return with a case of beer for the guys to savor after a job well done.

I cannot say enough about High Performancelawn services and his crew. They exceeded my expectations not only in timing and the superb cleanup, but they noticed a large dead tree limb tangled in my neighbor's tree that hung over our driveway and got up there to remove it. Something the neighbors were "gonna get to" for the past three months. These guys are AWESOME!!!!

I 100% recommend using High performance Lawn Care. If it takes a little effort to get them to your place, the service is well worth it.

thank you for everything and I will call you again soon !!

His other reviews are his wife, him and his brother - just FYI

Sometime in late 2012, I contacted Diego and explained my concerns for my yard - the lack of attention to detail, the damaging of sprinkler heads, the weeds in the lawn, the dead patches, etc. Diego visited my home and assured me that he could/would have everything taken care of properly. We agreed on a monthly charge and also agreed on a price to, find the hidden / buried sprinklers and make repairs. In as much, Diego also assured me that if they damaged any of the sprinklers moving forward it was on them.

The first cut was "ok" at best. Subsequent cuts were "ok" as a general overview. After a month+ of service, my wife and I walked the yard and saw MANY lingering and even NEWER issues. Areas I asked them not to cut so that the grass can grow were not only being cut, but edged out. A door mat outside the covered patio door was never EVER moved or cut around which allowed grass to grow over it. The grass was also being cut so short it was (to use their industry term) being "burned". I emailed pictures and my concerns to Diego. Once Diego and I discussed these issues, he assured me that he would have his employees do the work properly from here on in. Loooooong story short, they didn't. I specifically asked them to skip at least 1 cut to allow the grass to grow. 2 days later, I happened to be home sick and here come is workers (who’s legal status I'm not sure of after conversation with them) on their gigantic ride on mower starting to cut my lawn at full throttle. I ran outside and stopped them. I called Diego on the spot who then said, "I don't know what happened, I told them not to go to your house". I then told Diego, this happened in Mid-March, we need to take a break. I need to reclaim my lawn. Weeds were abundant - which I also asked him about SEVERAL times and he told me that it wasn't time for the "Weed n Feed" yet. Then when it was, and I didn't get the notice from him, he didn't do my yard... as if I hadn't expressed my burning desire to rid my yard of weeds for months to him... I told Diego to discontinue service until further notice. He asked about starting again the first week of April, I said no. I told him that I would contact him when I was ready.

Since then I had a man named John Cross (whom I found on Angie's List) come and inspect the grass and soil condition. He found mites, fungus, burnt grass, poor soil quality, etc. Our plan of action to help this turf was to hand mow the yard (not a ride on mower) and a series of bio-fertilization and pesticides - none of which have been coming cheap. I found an independent gardener who is cutting with a traditional hand mower and together we all had built up quite the turf. The new gardener was here this past weekend Saturday and we began to marvel at what was becoming of the lawn. Less weeds, more "plush", etc. Then, today, I came home to a seared lawn! I wish I could post the pictures I have. There was also a bill in the mailbox from Diego's company for services this month. The most upsetting thing is my 2 months of effort, hard work and money has been destroyed. I called Diego and he so flippantly dismissed everything I told him. He said at one point "It's grass, it will grow back". That speaks volumes to me, proving that he has no concept of lawn care and is nothing more than a guy who has some immigrants working for him going around hacking up lawns. He is not a "Landscaper". People throw that word around like it's nothing. Landscapers are artists and look at their work and will be proud of what they've done. This crew barely qualifies as a lawn service company. And the attitude of Diego will soon catch up to him as I know, you cannot stay in business without customer service and quality work. Neither of which are intact with this group.
