I will start off by saying their rating would have been higher if they had shown a little bit of professionalism when the job was completed. First, why don’t we talk about the good? The crew that performed the tree removal at my property did a great job, with regard to the tree removal. That is where the good stops.

The contract signed indicates that there could be “some” damage done to your yard as a result of the work performed. I agree, considering the equipment that they have to use. The damage to my yard, however, was quite excessive. This stemmed from an apparent lack of knowledge as to how to drive their crane into the yard. When they backed the crane out at the end of the job the entire yard was destroyed. Our yard was nice and flat prior to their visit. When they were finished we had mounds that stood up to six inches higher than the original level and we had pits that went down six plus inches. All we asked of Mr. McGuinness (yes the elder McGuinness and the owner of the company) was to level the muck back out. I understand we were going to lose grass and have some divots in the yard, but this was excessive. The mess spanned three-quarters of my quarter acre backyard. The response Mr. McGuinness gave was highly unprofessional. His exact quote was “your expectations were too high, I gave you a bargain price for this job”. Well, if I had known I could pay more money to have them respect my property and return it to a near-normal state I would have paid the extra money. He told me it would only cost a few hundred dollars to have a landscaper come in and fix the yard…or it would take me ten minutes with a rake. After a while he said he would send somebody back to the property with the tools necessary to level the land. Thank god I didn’t wait since nobody ever showed up. I had to go out and buy some tools and leveled the land myself. If you read this review Mr. McGuinness, it took over five hours to fix the yard…not ten minutes. During the work they also damaged some asphalt in front of the house. Again, they indicate on the contract that this is a risk. They, however, do not need to rake saw dust on top of it to try and hide the damage. Luckily, we saw the damage from the window and we watched them try to conceal it. This was quite unprofessional in my mind. Own up to the damage. At least the homeowner will know what we need to fix up front, rather than finding out later. I could have damaged my vehicle driving over the damage if I didn’t know it was there. Again, an EXTREMELY unprofessional move on their part.

Bottom line, they are good at removing trees. If you do not care about respect or professionalism and/or you don’t set your expectations too high, this is the company for you. If, however, you care about your property, being told the truth, getting a little help when they do excessive damage to the yard, etc., you should find another company. I wish I had. They were supposed to come back out in the spring to grind out a couple of stumps for us…needless to say that will not happen. They have already done enough damage to my property.

We had McGuinness Tree take down a lightning struck pine about a month ago after those nasty thunderstorms we had. They did a great job "plucking" the tree out of my back yard using their crane. The tree was carried through the air right over my house. We were so pleased with their work (and cleanup afterwards) we have made plans to have them back this fall for more work.
