A 28-year-old Hurst, Texas, man was killed in an oilfield accident Tuesday at a construction site southeast of New Town.

According to a press release issued by the Mountrail County Sheriff's Office, Charles Ross Petty was working at the site for Trans Power Electric Inc. Petty was working as a spotter for a trenching machine that rolled backwards and pinned Petty between the digging wheel and the ground. Two EMT's employed at the site attempted to revive Petty at the scene, but he died en route to the Mountrail County Medical Center in Stanley.

The body has been sent to the North Dakota Forensic Medical Examiner for autopsy to determine an exact cause of death. Officials from the Occupational Health and Safety Administration were contacted and inspected the workplace on Wednesday. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
