I was up in that area with a very good friend of mine. He'd made arrangements the day before to buy a gun from Ken, the owner/operator of the shop. While we were there & they worked on the required paperwork that goes with the purchase I browsed the shop noting that he handled a fair variety of firearms though, he didn't have the pistol I was interested in... yet. All of his guns were reasonably priced, his fee was minimal compared to the "box" stores & he actually spent quality time with the customer to ensure they were fitted with the right gun & were satisfied with their choice. I also noted there were a couple of firearms that had tags on them that suggested he's worked on those guns in one way or another for some his customers. He had some milling & smithing machinery & other tools in an adjacent room & in the main sales area. A couple of "customers" dropped by while I was there. One stopped by to pick up his rifle that had been "smithed" in one way or another by Ken. Ken was working with my friend re: completing the paperwork for a legal transaction/gun purchase so he couldn't jump right over & serve the fellow who just walked in. That fellow didn't seem to care nor did I. While the fellow waited for his rifle he chatted with me a bit. He told me he's been going to that "shop" for years & swore he wouldn't go anywhere else to purchase a firearm nor have anyone else work on his guns. He said Ken & his son are "true to their customers". I'm a bit of a chatterbox & he was too so we had quite the discussion re: guns, ammo, reloading, loads, bullets, primers, calibers, scopes, etc. The bottom line? My friend walked out of that shop/store with the handgun he purchased (after all of the state's & fed's legalities were completed), the price was right & my experience in the store chatting with the 2 or 3 customers & the owner was great. It's a bit of a drive but if I lived closer I'd be dealing with him more. The customers I met swore by him & his service. Great shop!

Seems more difficult these days to find experienced gunsmiths and sales guys. Firemasters has both. Work done on my rifles has been first rate and reasonably priced. And, unlike the mega sporting goods stores in Olympia, I receive good, solid, take-to-range and reloading room advice from guys who actually shoot. Bit of a drive from Tumwater, but definitely worth it.
