In a quick recap. Carlos came to our home multiple times, gave us an estimate. We gave a deposit and sign the contract. He shows up to work, does the prep work for 1/4 of the job (by prep I mean tape paper to the floor). Proceeds to let us know that he now believes the job is double his initial estimate. We are not sure what has changed bc the home is the exact home he came to evaluate a couple of times. Feeling like this was no longer a fair price we withdraw from his ridiculous new estimate. He then refuses to give us our deposit. The most unprofessional individual I've ever met. We had three people come and give us estimates and most were in the same ballpark, we opted to go with him, sadly the worst decision in our remodel. All he did was come for a couple of hours and put paper in one of our rooms and decide it was ethical to keep our deposit. Not just that, but he was inconsistent with his communication. At this point it is fair to say he stole $1100, let's say $1000 ($100 for the couple of hours he worked and for taping paper on the floor).
