Some agents deal with home sales and because home sales have dropped, agents are now starting to do rental agreements. Chicago has a very tenant friendly law and if the right documents are not attached to the lease, the tenant can breach the contract at any time. Phil Barone is the branch manager at Coldwell Banker and does not even know the laws associcated with landlord and tenants. This is very sad because this is considered malpractice. As a landlord I hired this agency to do my contract when a tenant rented my place. They did not do all the right things with the contract therefore, the contract was void when my tenant broke his lease early. Be aware of the RTLO and hire a lawyer to look over the contract. This branch is not aware of the law when it comes to leasing contracts. I suffered $4500 because my tenant broke his lease and I had to hire a new agency to find another person. This has been a law for a long time and it is sad that some agencies are not aware of what they are doing. The new agency I went through attached all the right documents and couldn't believe that the last agency didn't know about it. Do not do business with Coldwell Banker when it comes to rental agreements.
