I graduated from here a while back, and If Shimer were any awesomer it would explode in a supernova of awesomeness. Let us count the ways:1. Intense Great Books curriculum. Your brain will never be idle at Shimer.2. Close-knit, supportive community. Everybody knows who you are, and everybody cares HOW you are.3. Participatory governance. YOU get a voice in how the school is run.4. Admissions based not on test scores or GPA, but your actual ability to handle college-level academics. Big schools can't do that, medium-sized schools can't do that; only tiny places like Shimer will actually treat you like a human being rather than a set of numbers.

Shimer is not for everyone, but if you are a free spirit and independent thinker, I recommend it in the highest possible terms. From its small discussion classes to its dedicated faculty, close-knit community and robust tradition of participatory governance, Shimer is what you always thought college should be (but never imagined it could be).
