The Neo-Futurists are a collective of wildly productive writer/director/performers who create: - Theater that is a fusion of sport, poetry and living-newspaper. - Non-illusory, interactive performance that conveys our experiences and ideas as directly and honestly as possible. - Immediate, unreproduceable events at head-slappingly affordable prices. - Work that embraces those unreached or unmoved by conventional theater -- inspiring them to thought, feeling and action.

Chicago isn't really about beaches...

It's about little gems in great little neighborhoods like this. Get there a little early so you can walk around. There are some cool (read: $$$) coffee shops, an art gallery, good restaraunts, some little shops catering to all sorts of communities, and various nightclubs for the GLBT crowd sprinkled throughout... it's what real estate agents refer to as "vibrant", and what a down-stater like myself considers a very nice change of pace from chain restaraunt purgatory.

Get in line for Too Much Light a little early. If it's just wrapped around the building, as a general rule, you're good. If it's too far around the corner, you might not get a seat. First come, first served, but admission will never be more than $13. Bring a little extra for your stroll through the kitchen.

Fair warning: it's a "found space", and one of the things they did not find for the waiting areas was an air conditioning unit. It gets a little ripe. My recommendation is to bring a little bottle of essential oils or something not horribly offensive to asthmatics. Also, spend a little time on Wikipedia reading about the presidents and refreshing yourself on our nation's history before you go. No, seriously. The hall of presidents is awesome, but the jokes really do go down better if you actually have a sense of what was happening at the time. If you're in your thirties and haven't studied American history for a while, like me, it's a reminder of how much you've forgotten. My college buddy without kids, on the other hand, was dying. The jokes I did get were pretty brutal.

Much like the show. I've seen this show three times, and while I never remember more than just snippets of what I've seen, what I remember stays with me. Sometimes that's not such a good thing (I'm thinking about the skit where the guy just sat in the middle of the stage eating balogna maniacally to loud techno music, chomping with his mouth open and letting it all fall out in front of him on the stage). Other times, it's an epiphany. I've seen roughly 90 plays by these guys (they made it through all 3 times), and there have been enough deeply disturbing, fascinating, horrifying, emotional, and side-splittingly funny skits for me to forgive them for the balogna incident.

Oh, one last thing. Leave the kids at home. No seriously. This is not an all ages show.
