National Car Rental at O'Hare is my car rental company of choice each and every time. They are prompt , courteous and the cars are always clean, fueled and the selection is great

I've used National Rent-A-Car in many cities and I've never been disappointed. I've never seen them unprepared to accommodate large groups of customers (sometimes 30 at a time) with extreme speed and efficiency in both the pick up and drop off of the cars. The rides to and from the airports on the shuttle are terrific. If the occasion should happen where I almost walk off with the keys all of the reminders have saved me from having to find a way to give them back. The service is so fast that without the reminders about making sure I've got my cell phone and wallet, etc. have occasionally made me go back really quickly and get that black cell phone I missed laying down inside the dark car. These types of things have only happed once or twice but I'm so glad that the consistency in the service quality never fails me all the time. I can't think of any reason why National Rent-A-Car (with Emerald Service - which is free) wouldn't be anyone's first choice.

I rent from National at Chicago O'Hare frequently, and I have always been so impressed with the level of service I receive there. From the attendants on the shuttle bus to the person I talk with when I leave the lot to the person who greets me when I drop the car off, everyone has been friendly and knowledgeable. I have never had an experience there that was an exception. Wonderful job, National! Keep up the great work!

I had another great experience. No line, No waiting. No human interaction (except at the exit). Enjoyed it. I could use a few more selections but otherwise I would recommend using National to all

I arrived late to the Chicago airport location and was just dropped off by the bus driver. There was no one there (offices were closed) to help and no indication of where to find my rental car. I wandered around in 20 degree temperatures for about 20 minutes, asking the exit guard for help, but getting nowhere. Finally, the Alamo folks stepped in and took very good care of me, getting me into a car quickly with a very helpful service attitude. Thank goodness National has such good second agency on their team.

This was a business trip renting at O' Hare airport. The car was a mess inside and the gas tank was not full. The attendant did offer me another car but I did not have the time to goof around going in and out of cars. The service was very pleasant and professional and on check in they did not charge me for gas even though I did not have a chance to fill up due to my schedule. I will use National again but I am certain this car did not meet their standards.

Overall great experience! I will say I paid extra to "choose any car in the aisle" and only had like, 3 cars to choose from (a bunch of people had just gotten off a bus and jumped into the cars I wanted), but the car I chose was very clean, everyone was super nice-- definitely plan on returning!

This is not one of my favorite locations, especially in winter. Offsite rental facility means waiting for shuttle, often 10 to 15 minutes. Last time the driver closed the door and drove off with a nearly empty shuttle when I was almost to board, and banging on the door. The facility has no protection from the wind. I had to roll my suitcase over slick ice and mounds of snow to find a car. I wound up with a Chrysler 200 standard model from the executive aisle due to limited choices, and it took several minutes to check out with cars 4 & 5 deep in the check out lines.

This location runs too few buses. I always see multiple buses form the other rental companies come and go before the first National bus comes. Also, the cars offered in the Emerald Executive rows are not up to par - Jeep Patriots, Dodge Journeys, Chrysler 200s, etc.

Solid company, good service, fast checkout. Major complaint is the lack of shuttle buses. I've had to wait outside in subzero temperature for 15 minutes while every other car rental company bus went by at least twice, in some cases 3 or more times before one National shuttle came. This was not an isolated incident, I've been flying to ORD every week for 16 weeks and it the same story every time. They need more shuttle bus drivers.

Typically I do not have any problems with National, however, this last trip to Chicago was horrible. It was super busy so there were about 15 of us waiting outside for cars to come in. I don't mind getting a dirty car on the outside since the salt would just get it dirty again, but the inside was disgusting and I couldn't even use the trunk. I went to put my luggage in the trunk and it was broke, the floor piece that goes over the spare wouldn't lay flat and there was a ton of snow in there. Like the person before me, I put my bag in the backseat since there was already mud from their bag back there. Luckily I didn't have passengers. I don't mind waiting for a clean vehicle, I do mind waiting for filthy car.

I was visiting family for 11 days. I got a good deal on airline tickets and a rental. After an inexpensive upgrade, I was very happy with the quality of vehicle I was driving. The car was clean and the agent was helpful. I would happily rent from national again.

Rented A van on Christmas Day in Chicago at ORD to drive to Washington DC and then return. The only bad thing about the car was that someone had smoked in it and it smelled awful.

When it pulled up I did not notice it unitl all the doors were closed and I was on my way. I figured I would exchange it on the way but none of the other locations on my route had a van, Not happy :(

Just recently rented in Chicago at National and was glad I did. I only use a debit card for my transactions and was afraid I could not rent the vehicle, but our reservationist at the counter made it happen. We even ended up with a better vehicle than originally on the reservation. I have tried other rental companies, but much less headaches with National.

Wow ... I have been loyal National Car for years, Executive / Executive Elite and had airline weather challenges, caused me to come into ORD, and have to change plans and leave out of MKE. No problem for National, except that bludgeoned me $156 / day for an economy car? Really National? I called, and they said "too bad for you".

I've been renting from National O'Hare for the last 8+ years, with about 25 rentals per year at this location. I've seen this location at its best, and I've experienced it at its worst. At its worst (6-7 years ago), the workers would hold back SUVs during the snowy winter days, and then ask for an under-the-table handout (cash) to get access to those vehicles, which should have been put out on the executive selection lot. They would only put out sedans, but keep the 4x4s and SUVs around the corner, hidden from sight. For $10 - $20 extra dollars cash, they would bring one to you, warm and ready to go. It's important to note that this practice has since ended. At its best (last couple years), the cars are clean, the workers are pleasant, and the experience is seamless. Most of the time, the experience is fine. As you are waiting for a bus from the airport to the rental location, you can expect to see 3 - 4 Avis and Hertz pickup buses past by for every 1 National/Alamo pick-up bus. So, when it comes to being picked up from the terminal, timing is everything. During my most recent visit, the pick-up/check-out process was great. When I dropped off the rental car for check-in, there was no one available to check in the vehicle. I waited several minutes for someone to help, but no one was around. Running late for my flight, I left the vehicle in the drop-off lane and hustled to the National bus for shuttle service to the airport. Later that evening, I noticed that the vehicle still showed “overdue” on the online website and on the National app. That same evening, I called the customer service line to explain the situation and get the check-in resolved. The customer service voicemail message said "For prompt service, send an email to the on-duty manager at NationalChicagoOHareIL@national.com". However, that email address is incorrect - it is actually supposed to be: NationalChicagoOHareIL@nationalcar.com. That needs to be fixed on the voicemail. I never received a response from the on-duty manager. So, the next morning, I called customer service during their normal hours, and the representative was able to check-in my vehicle. Ultimately, it's my fault for being late for my flight and not waiting for the vehicle to be checked-in (get receipt/proof of return). At the same time, if someone calls the National O'Hare location, which is open 24 hours a day, outside the normal customer service hours, there should at least be a mechanism in place to address after-hours customer concerns in a timely manner as described on the voicemail message. All-in-all, I rate this location high in overall experience. Like with any company, there are areas of potential improvement. In this review, I've tried to create the proper balance of highlighting opportunities for improvement and recognizing the areas of strength.

Could not have been easier. The bus was waiting at the curb when we came out. We were quickly taken to the lot. As an Emerald Club member, I was able to just pick a car and be on my way. Easy. And on the return I drove up, someone checked out the car and handed me a receipt by the time I had gathered all of my luggage.

My wife and I came into Chicago for a long weekend. My rental was ready as reserved and I was on the streets of Chicago in 15 minutes after getting to the rental location. The rental was flawless and cost me what the estimate said it would. I will be back. Dan T. 10/21/15
