My situation is quite atypical. I have owned 4 custom made Mercedes (1 SUV and 3 convertibles). I ordered a custom C43 AMG convertible in December 2016 and received delivery March 31, 2017. Of course this is a car with all the upgrades, no expenses are spared. We definitely wanted something comparable to the SL500 that we leased prior to this car. There were a few minor issues at delivery -a 1-2 mm paint defect on the front bumper and our brand new vehicle was quite dirty (hand prints on mirrors ,doors, nav screen). The minimal paint discoloration we accepted and the cleaned the hand prints. In the first 2 weeks we started to here an annoying plastic rubbing sound around the steering wheel that would appear when any bump in the road was hit. The brakes also squeeked constantly. After a few weeks the rubbing sound was continuous. We had to take this BRAND NEW CAR back to the dealer. They cleaned the brakes, now the squeaking heard less frequently, but still present. The plastic rubbing they found was some panel under the steering wheel was not tightened well. They fixed that. When we got the car, the problems recurred and the second time in, they resolved these issues. About 6 weeks ago, we noticed a 2 inch specific outlined square area of faded color on the middle front of the external convertible top. We also saw a solid rectangular area of faded color on the external convertible top above the driver's side. You can feel a hard structure underneath these areas that appears to be wearing through the convertible top- IN THREE MONTHS! I have had convertibles all my life and I have never had a problem with the fabric of the top, ever! There is also bubbling of the top fabric beneath the back window on the passenger side as if the top was sewn poorly with gathered fabric under the back window. We have not washed this car since we got it and we have taken the top down about 3 times. Again we returned to this dealer for the 3 rd time in 3 months for another issue. They examined the faded areas and said these were not defects, but are some areas we probably tried to clean and faded the fabric. As I stated, there are specific structures underneath these areas that are outlined. I do not know how the color would even be faded since the fabric is waterproof. Since I cannot even think of something that would have landed in those areas and took the dye away and they cannot explain it either, this is obviously a factory defect. This was taken up to MBUSA (via pictures of the areas) and they agreed. However, they will not put this decision in writing. I am floored by the poor workmanship that has went into this car and the lack of responsibility they are taking on an item that is such a large part of the car and never should have issues. Maybe leaking, not discoloration and fabric gathering. I am going to have to enlist my attorney general, the BBB and possibly the news to investigate this matter. With problems this early in the cars life, I can only ascertain it is a lemon and should be returned. I will never shop at this MB or ever buy another MB. I should have gotten the Bentley that I initially wanted to purchase, but it is certainly my mistake for being loyal to a brand.
