non-payers

The reviews here are devastating. I cannot imagine how this organization stays in business. It seems that they pay no one. I have reported them to my professional orgainzations and to the BBB of Chicago. My next step is to take this issue to the IRS because they are cledarly raking in money and shelling none out, all the while presumably reporting that X number of dollars were paid to clients.I do not appreciate being screwed over like this, and I have the time and resources to pursue this matter.Wm. These people are non-payers.

I did a short translation for them more than three months ago, and I have yet to receive payment. I have reported them to ATA, ATA-SSLI, the BBB of Chicago. After reading the comments below, I shall now report them to the IRS.

WORST CLIENT EVER..DO NOT ACCEPT ANY ASSIGNMENTS FROM THEM...

WORST CLIENT EVER..I completed an assignment for them 3 months ago and still waiting for the check..

unhappy interpreter

if you dont mind frequently being paid for services performed 3-6 months after assignment and consistently being told "he is not in the office today to answer that" or, "your check is in mail" but not getting a check until a time much later, this is the place to work for you. towards the end of my employment with them i was paid in late december for services performed in may. i could not take it anymore and had to leave.

judgment

It took a judgment from the Labor Department and a legal action from the Attorney’s General Office to recover me fees, I would strongly recommend for any interpreter or translator who had ever worked for this agency and was not properly compensated for their services to initiate a legal action – it’s time to prove to the Cosmopolitan owners that they are not above the law and bullying is not a proper way to conduct their business

Interpreters - do not accept any assignment from Cosmopolitan, Clinets - do not hire through this a

I am yet another interpreter that completed numerous assignments from this agency and never received any compensation. Apparently, I am not the only one.... These people are scammers.

Do not accept any assignment

It has been over a year, after multiple attempts failed to collect my fees. Response from agency's two employees have always been, "the owner takes care of the book, he will see to it, he's out of the office." This agency listed with $1 million in net income, but can escape IRS's keen eyes, should we be surprised? This type of frudulant practices has going on for years. Let's stop this ugly cycle. Beware. Do not accept any assignment. they made money out of you for free. I wonder how they cooked up their books to IRS.This agency gives other agencies a bad name.

Pol/Eng Interpreter

Interpreters-notify IRS in addition to Labour Dpt!After first unpaid assignment from Cosmopolitan in 2009 I quickly realized its a scam agency and refused following offers. Owner of this agency (who seems to be constantly out of town) was surprised by my visit at his office and promised to mail the payment within 2 days. Check never arrived.IRS should be very interested in operations of the company whichcollects such profits!

free-lance interpreter

Very very unprofessional. I have done translations for them which to this date remain unpaid. The owner avoids calls and emails and refuses to pay. I intend on notifying all the necessary agencies about them and am talking to my attorney. Please do NOT use them; they get the money from you and do NOT pay their interpreters!

Cosmopolitan Translation Bureau owes many interpreters of their services

I have bad experience with Cosmopolitan Translation Bureau.I accepted assignments earlier in 09, as of now not a penny received. After talking to other interpreters, many of them simply gave up after repeated attempts asking for payment. All had bad experience either directly or their friends were being hurt even way back in 2007. Some of them said after almost a year, they paid only portion of what was owed them. I will let others know to file complaints with Illinois Dept of Labor.I totally agree, Cosmopolitan should be put out of business.

unpaid fees - Cosmopolitan

I have filed a "unpaid wages" claim with the Illinois Department of Labor and my application was accepted. Hope for the best. It is not even about money anymore just the very unacceptable business conduct. Emannuel Steen and his Cosmopolitan Bureau needs to be put out of business before they "cheat" more client and translators.

In Same Boat

I second what the above reviewer said. I have worked with this agency sporadically for the past 2 years or so. Every time it came to payment I was never able to get it on time. Once I had to threaten not to show up at an assignment before they would pay my past due invoices. Never again will I work with this company. I am seriously considering police action for "theft of services."

deceptive business practices

Atempting to colect on my unpaid invoices for the past 4 months. I have accepted some interpreting assignment from them in February. Send them several emails made, many phone calls . Emanuel Steen never available and never responded to any of my complaints. At this point I am considering legal action. Do not recomend working for them.
