BUILD, founded in 1969, is a nonprofit organization that helps redirect the behavior of gang-affiliated youth and potential recruits to gangs. The organization has helped more than 77,000 young people lead more productive lives. Many participants in the BUILD programs have gone on to have successful careers as attorneys, educators, policemen, firemen and government employees. It also emphasizes on leadership development and in helping the youth develop positive life plans. The organization serves the Chicago neighborhoods that include Ravenswood, Uptown, Lakeview, Logan Square, West Town, Humbolt Park and Cabrini Green. BUILD is headquartered in Chicago, Ill.
