In the ancient kingdom of Tawantisuyo - the Inca and their predecessors created a rich gastronomic tradition. For thousands of years the Andean peoples produced delicious dishes using chilies, corn, avocados, tomatoes, and potatoes. It would only be in the last 400 years that the rest of the world would have access to most of these ingredients. Peru has uniquely mixed its culinary native heritage with that of the Spanish Conquistadors and more recent immigrants such as the Japanese.

New to Peruvian food

i live in nw indiana and decided to try something different, so me and the wife looked up chicago restaurants and decided on this place. its about 45 min-1 hr drive for us, but i have to say that it was worth it. we've been back 3 times, each time with new friends and they've returned also. great food great service. Peruvian cuisine is delicious. Alot of seafood infused dishes as well as beef and chicken dishes. many different ceviche options as well.

Ceviche

I always order the Ceviche mixto at every Peruvian restaurant I go to, and I must say the ceviche mixto here tasted more like sushi. The fish was not seared properly and the tilapia was hard and raw like sushi. The red spice (rocoto) was not hot but bitter. I came here when it first opened and the food tasted a lot better, I hope they change chefs or look into preparing each meal properly.

Best Peruvian Cuisine in chicago!!!!!I enjoyed traveling and with that ethic food, i came across with Peru a few years back and since them i have been in search to find the real Peruvian cuisine, to me this is what AY AY PICANTE -PERUVIAN CUISINE IS ...AUTHENTIC! not only for the way the food is being deliver to the table but for the flavor on each dish, i was told that the chef is peruvian (this might be the secret), on the same note waiters are very polite, ambiance is romantic and pleasant, very clean. Mr Bardales (the owner) welcomes you as a long time friend, A great find in Chicago.

Romantic atmosphere/best service.

This place is so cozy! the room is big and has a nice touch of romance with candle lights, red table clothing, napkins... etc... my first time coming here. Peruvian food is so full of flavor, big portions, and the waiters were so nice, their signature sauce " the ay ay picante sauce" is to die for! incredible good!
