Not a Chiropractor!!

Found through insurance "Doctor Finder."

My first visit was a bit iffy... in the lobby of this small office, there was a couple, who were members of Dr. Jenkins' church up the street (the controversial Trinity Church of God), that seemed to be there to provide an in-person testimonial of Dr. Jenkins' healing powers through the water-sharing program; apparently this office sells alkaline water. Umm, whatever...

The consultation was fine, although I didn't really know what to expect; Dr. Jenkins did a good job of explaining how my existing habits were greatly causing the strain in my neck and lower back, and that he'd be able to help me. So he put me on the machine that "breaks up your spinal bones" by running two heated poles up and down my spine for twenty minutes, and before I left, his wife called complaining that my hour was up. Now the doctor probably didn't realize that I could hear this whole convo while he took this call right in front of me, duh!, but she screamed, "Well was she late?!?! Did you make sure she paid upfront?!?!?" Whoa!! I also side-noted that he gave me a bunch of brochures for things not included in the normal chiropractic care: purchasing an ionizing water machine from his wife's website for $5k, a $25 nutritional test, etc. Umm ok...

During the second visit, Dr. Jenkins' wife made an appearance. After a short exam, in which my weight and BP was taken, and then I was promptly placed on the machine for twenty minutes, he said, "That's it... next week same time?" I got very skeptical and started to ask him about the program that he was designing for me, and he mentioned that he would start adjustments NEXT week, and that I should consider going for an x-ray to one of his referred doctors, eh um, and also still take the nutritional test. Again with the SELLING of extra services, and I still hadn't received the first EOB from my insurance. I declined on both, and said that I'll be looking to the adjustments next week. Then, as I was signing out, his wife was on the phone lallygagging about something, and Dr. Jenkins charged me a copay. After he'd run my card, she promptly got off the phone and said, "What are you charging her?!? Her insurance company told me that she's supposed to pay x%!" I said that I didn't have a problem with that, and when they submit the claim, I will pay what I owe. At this point, my healthcare background kicked in, and I mentioned that "I'll pay the balance that I owe after my insurance confirms the negotiated/allowed price for the services the doctor has submitted charges for." I guess they were shocked that I actually KNOW that doctors overcharge patients, and that I was not going to pay x% of some astronomical price that they were going to submit. "We'll straighten this out with our Billing Agency." Yeah, do that...

Third visit, the same exam as the first, weight and BP, then 20 minutes on the machine, and that's it!!! Dr. Jenkins says again, "same time next week." What happened to my physical adjustments????!?!?! As we were walking to the check out, he stops me to sell the nutritional test again, which is "half-off at $25 through the end of the month." I struggled to not laugh in his face.

He tried to bill me the excess from the previous week, and then x% of this week's bill. I figured he didn't know that my insurance doesn't pay what he submitted in full, so I gave him a copy of the EOB. He copied it, and I left. Then I got a call an hour later from his wife screaming at me that they have to postpone my appts until they contacted the billing agency because they can't afford to service me as a patient with my insurance. I said that's perfectly fine and their contract negotiated billing has nothing to do with me!! Her response, "nothing to do with us either!" LOL

Really unprofessional and Dr. Jenkins did not perform chiropractic care. His wife = extra.
