My daughter has danced at Mill...

My daughter has danced at Miller Street for seven years. She started out at the Providence studio in Charlotte taking regular classes, but eventually wanted to dance competitively. She joined the Competition Team at the Baxter Village location in Ft. Mill, S.C. three years ago and absolutely loves it.

Miller Street is so much more than a dance studio - it is a safe and nurturing place where our daughter has learned many valuable life lessons: acts of service, a love for her community and those in need, the importance of honesty, integrity, hard work, perseverance, teamwork, respect, personal responsibility, patience, and having a positive attitude.

While our daughter has learned to dance from some of the best instructors in the business, she has also made friends and grown to love being a part of the competition team. Miller Street Dance Academy has become her home away from home. The teachers and staff are highly professional, and the studio is well-maintained. In the words of my husband, the studio is managed like a well-oiled machine. Students and parents are expected to behave kindly toward one another - gossip simply is not tolerated. This expectation creates a wonderful, inviting environment where dancers and their families truly feel welcome and part of a team.

Our Competition Team has received various awards, but one of the proudest moments for me as a parent, was the award the team received for good sportsmanship this year at Nationals! My daughter loves being a part of this amazing dance studio, and as a Mom, I am so thankful that I can entrust her to such amazing and talented dance professionals! I highly recommend Miller Street Dance Academy and just can't say enough great things about them!

Our kids dance on the competit...

Our kids dance on the competition team and enjoy it most of the time. The team is large and its hard for your child to stand out but they are the best team we have saw in our area. The instruction is excellent and the teachers are good. Studio is modrn an clean. Studio has new dance store connected to it but some items are overpriced. We are switching to another studio next year cause there's alot of gossip among the favoured parents. The teachers try to keep this secret but some of the parents are gossip queens so it always gets out. One student was having an attitude problem and they blamed it on the parents??? It wasn't a home problem it was a studio problem. The best dancers get preferential treatment and all the students are aware of it. Some of the wealthier parents also try to buy favour by giving elaborate gifts for holidays and other occasions. I think the studio should limit gifts from students and parents. It puts them at an unfair advantage and no matter what anyone says about being fair to everyone if one child gives all her teachers gifts those students are favored. Our family can't compete with all that. Teachers also talk about their favourite students in front of other students. One example is when my daughters wanted to do different things one of the star dancers couldn't do it either, but the dance was changed just so the star dancer COULD do it. Instead of giving another girl a chance the star dancer was automatically given the lead and it was changed so she could do it. It didn't matter that other girls could do the easier part too. The star must be the star! My husband tried to address some of the unfair favoritism in a nice way with one of the teachers but of course he was in the wrong and then he was chided about how to parent our child better. They don't post a pyramid like the one Abby Lee Miller uses but the dancer hierarchy exists in secret and is obvious when you see the same five girls in the spotlight for every dance. The owner is nice but the favouritism has caused our girls to come home in tears and that is not what I'm paying for. If not for the great instruction I would give 1 star.
