Common Wealth Charlotte is a non-profit agency with its mission to empower the low-income families and at-risk teens of Charlotte toward financial independence. We offer innovative, trauma-informed financial education (TIFE) advancing clients' understanding of basic financial disciplines through empowerment workshops and one-to-one advanced financial counseling. CWC also provides access to Opportunity Loans with below-market rates and affordable payment structures, helping clients escape predatory loans, manage financial emergencies, make rental deposits for housing and other life-enhancing purposes while improving credit scores. In addition, CWC funds access to full-service checking accounts and other asset-building programs through credit union and bank partnerships. Through partnerships with Teach for America and Communities in Schools, CWC has adapted its TIFE-based curriculum into an interactive module created especially for at-risk middle- and high-school students in Title 1 schools in the Charlotte area.
